Students Over Su***de - News
Students Over Su***de I founded in 1999 in the Los Angeles, CA area, a year after helping get the Sunset Covenant House Youth Shelter started, and after leaving from doing intakes there, although for a couple of years I remained being an outside regular speaker there, holding group sessions on the kid’s reality. At the same time myself and few others directly involved in finding ways to reduce teen su***de organized the Los Angeles Task Force On Teen Su***de Board, consisting of all those working diligently to find ways to communicate. Whereby, I was a board member for its duration, organizing celebrities to get involved for P.S.A.'s.
Together along with actress Sara Gilbert and Dr. Michael Peck, author of the 911 su***de prevention curriculum, together we worked on how we could implement Students Over Su***de as a group setting with meetings after school within our public and private school system with the intention of helping each other under the peer pressure theory. Students Over Su***de in 1999 was of one of the nation’s first organized groups dedicated to the prevention of su***de within our educational system as an open forum in a group setting, sharing experiences.
Our work is based on the foundation and belief that su***de is preventable and everyone has a role to play in preventing su***de, most especially teen peer. Through raising public awareness, educating communities, and equipping every person with the right tools, we know we can SAVE lives by getting S.O.S., in every school across the nation. In the past we have included survivors to speak who bring a special affinity for su***de prevention. As was in 1999, my goal along with other skills, is to ensure organizational growth, development and effective management and known talents to the cause!
