USCIS continues its efforts to price people out of citizenship

🚨A new proposed rule could increase naturalization application fees by 80%, making it even harder for eligible immigrants to become U.S. citizens.

The proposal would also completely eliminate fee waiver options for lower-income naturalization applicants, creating yet another financial barrier to citizenship.

📣Don’t wait to naturalize! Call us at 213 385 7800 EXT 500!

We welcome the dismissal of federal charges against David Huerta, SEIU-USWW President.

As relieving as this news is, it is also deeply frustrating and frightening to see the lengths this government is willing to go to advance its hateful agenda. What happened to David could happen to any day laborer, organizer, community advocate or person of color who stands up for justice.

We must not normalize these attacks, and we will not be silenced.

🏛️Congress has the power to protect millions of immigrant families. Now it’s time to use it.📣

The Dream & Promise Act would create a pathway to citizenship for millions of DACA recipients, TPS holders, and other long-term members of our communities who work, pay taxes, raise families, and call this country home.

But Congress won’t act unless we demand it.

📲 Text **HOME IS HERE** to take action.
📩 Send a letter to your Member of Congress.
☎️ Call 202-688-0646 and urge your Representative to sign the Dream & Promise Act discharge petition.

Together, we can help deliver the permanent protections our communities deserve.

Children should not be alone in courtrooms.

Unaccompanied children are our neighbors, classmates, and friends. Yet thousands of them are now at risk of losing access to legal representation because theTrump administration is refusing to pay their attorneys the $65 million they owe.

If funding to nonprofit legal services is not restored, over 20,000 children will be left to navigate one of the world’s most complex legal systems alone — against trained government attorneys, in a language they may not speak. Congress funded these services, but the administration is refusing to pay the $65 million it owes nonprofits.

CARECEN-LA is deeply saddened by the reported death of Joan Sebastian Guerrero, a 26-year-old Colombian immigrant, husband, father, and beloved member of his community, who was fatally shot during an ICE enforcement operation in Biddeford, Maine. Reports indicate that his wife and young daughter witnessed the tragedy, a heartbreaking reminder of the profound trauma these enforcement actions inflict on immigrant families.

This marks the second fatal ICE shooting in less than a week, following the death of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in Houston. As families across the country grapple with fear and uncertainty, these tragedies underscore the devastating human cost of increasingly aggressive immigration enforcement.

CARECEN-LA calls for a full, transparent, and independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding this shooting and urges elected officials to exercise meaningful oversight of immigration enforcement practices. No family should have to endure this kind of loss. We stand with Joan Sebastian Guerrero’s loved ones and with every community demanding dignity, justice, and accountability.
