The Latina Lawyers Bar Association began in Los Angeles in 1997 when a group of Latina Lawyers recognized the need to address issues affecting the Latina/o community of women and girls. LLBA is a 501 (c) (3) corporation with this goal and focus: the advancement of its members within the legal profession and that of Latina women and girls in the wider community.

Hard work is never the issue. Equal pay is.

On average, Latinas earn just 53¢ for every $1 earned by white, non-Hispanic men—a figure that includes full-time, part-time, seasonal, and migrant workers. For full-time, year-round workers, Latinas earn just 60¢ for every $1.

That gap has real consequences: over a 40-year career, Latinas can lose approximately $1.2 million in earnings because of the wage disparity. It takes nearly two years for a Latina to earn what a white man earns in one.

These numbers are not simply statistics. They reflect persistent barriers to equal opportunity, advancement, leadership, and fair compensation.

This Latina Equal Pay Day, we’re calling for pay transparency, equal opportunities for leadership and advancement, and workplaces where Latina workers’ contributions are recognized and fairly compensated.

But this day is also about recognizing our power. Latinas have agency. We have voices. We have leadership. And together, we can change these dynamics.

The Latina Lawyers Bar Association remains committed to elevating Latina voices and advancing a future where our work, leadership, and contributions are valued—and paid accordingly.

This past Friday, LLBA traveled to San Francisco for the 5th Annual Bay Area Latina Law Leadership Academy, coming together to celebrate Latina leadership and empower the next generation of Latina leaders in law. ⚖️💫
