Help save small farms from going under because of regulatory issues with the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA)! Please call and ask your Congressional conference member to “support the Benishek Amendment in the House version of the Farm Bill, to protect farmers from unnecessary and costly new regulations by FDA.”

Here are the people to call for California – call today or tomorrow before this goes to a vote!

Brilliant article discussing why regulators allow huge businesses producing tainted food to continue to operate without more than a slap on the wrist, while arresting and jailing small farms who produce food that doesn't make people sick! (And if you don't already read The Complete Patient, put it on your list – posts are always timely, relevant, and thoughtful.)

I was explaining to a friend yesterday that the federal government in the form of the U.S.

What fats and oils are angels, which are demons? Are you confused about the difference between smoke point and nutrition, about omega 6 vs omega 3, about trans fats and monounsaturated? Then join us on October 22 in West LA for a no-holds-barred discussion about fats and oils! Click the link for deets...

Not only does food in general seem to be a scary topic these days, but fats and oils in particular incite fear in a big way. Are the following statements myths or truths? Saturated fat clogs arteries.

Join the WAPF at Green Fest Los Angeles, October 19-20 at the beautiful LA Mart in downtown LA!

Green Fest is one of the premier environmental expos, taking place this year in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Washington D.C. (not necessarily in that order). Speakers galore, DIY stage, cooking demos, and tons of exhibitors to visit, too.

Want to attend free for a day? Then sign up for a shift at our booth! You'll get to talk with the public about cultured vegetables, sustainable agriculture, pastured dairy products, and the importance of real food to us and our children.

For more information, and to indicate your desire to sign up, visit our Meetup page!

After our summer hiatus, we're back to a regular schedule of meetings for our chapter! We're starting off the season with an introduction to Weston A. Price – who was he, why do we care, and why is there a foundation named after him, anyway? He's a fascinating guy, with a lot to inform us about making food choices now.

Come check it out, October 1, 7 pm, at 8 Espressos (11901 Santa Monica Boulevard)!

The whole show is funny (Billy Crystal, need I say more), but at 10:45 there is a great piece of satire on biotech. Don't miss it!

Vladimir Putin assumes the role of peacemaker, Aasif Mandvi reports on the plight of biotech companies, and Billy Crystal recounts a bygone era in comedy.

Save organic eggs! I just posted a comment on the FDAs website regarding their proposed draft guidance which would decimate small organic egg farms, and allow organic certification for industrial CAFO egg operations.

The comment deadline is 11:59 pm TONIGHT. Won't you take a few minutes to tell the FDA not to proceed with this guidance? For more information and talking points, visit The Cornucopia Institute; then visit the FDA comment site and make a difference! http://www.regulations.gov/ #%21documentDetail;D=FDA-2000-N-0190-0111

Outrageous USDA/FDA behavior time! Heaven forbid those pastured chickens should actually be – gasp – outdoors, where they might come in contact with – gasp – nature! Click the link, sign the petition, tell those dumb bunnies we want our chickens outdoors so we can have healthy eggs!

The wants new regulations to keep free range chickens indoors because its too "dangerous" for them to be outside - they might (gasp - such horrors) come into contact with wild birds! If an organic farmer does keep them outside, they would have to comply with costly and onerous "food safety" measures.

Please sign the petition to tell the USDA and FDA that these regulations are over the top and would discourage production of truly healthy, more nutritious, organic, free range eggs.
