FIYA - Foundation for Interscholastic Youth Athletics

FIYA - Foundation for Interscholastic Youth Athletics Serving Los Angeles 3rd-8th schools with the vision that middle schools with a well balanced sports program will produce well-rounded youth + leaders!

Foundation for Interscholastic Youth Athletics or FIYA (pronounced FEYE yuh) was formed in August 2011 as a 501c3 nonprofit corporation by John Mueller, Nick Galvan and John Farren. It serves as a governing body to provide interscholastic sports competitions amongst elementary schools with a special focus on middle schools in the Los Angeles area. The founders believe that offering sports in an in

terscholastic setting provides children at the critical ages of 10 to 14 an optimal combination of learning core values, staying physically active, and making the educational experience fun and rewarding. Consequently, FIYA’s mission is strengthening schools through sports. While participation is open to any elementary school, FIYA focuses on working with schools in economically disadvantaged areas. In FIYA’s first year, it served over 40 elementary schools and over 1000 student athletes and in its second year grew to over 50 elementary schools and over 2000 student athletes. FIYA’s goal is to have 200 elementary schools throughout Los Angeles County within the next five years. FIYA offers a variety of sports offerings so that every student will have an opportunity to participate in interscholastic sports. In previous years, FIYA has provided all of the following for our schools/student athlete participants: flag football, volleyball, cross country, bowling, basketball, spirit, soccer, track & field, futsal, beach volleyball, ping-pong archery, and baseball. See our "General Information" for sports we are currently offering!

Participation is open to any elementary and middle school, and we’ve built our foundation with a special focus on making our sports programs as accessible as possible to ALL Los Angeles schools, especially those in economically disadvantaged areas. Our primary goal each year is to get as many students involved in sports through their school systems as possible. Simply put, we want every child to have the opportunity to participate in sports because of the positive impact we see it makes for our youth with every single season. In our first year in 2011, we served over 40 elementary schools and over 1,000 student athletes and in our second year grew to over 50 elementary schools and over 2000 student athletes.

Since our founding in 2011, we’ve served:

  • Over 400 Los Angeles Elementary & Middle Schools of all types (private, charter, public, boarding, etc.)
