At The Center, we are proud to partner with community organizations that lead with compassion, expertise and lived experience. One of these partnerships is with Community Against Sexual Harm (CASH), a survivor‑centered organization supporting women and girls in Sacramento experiencing or vulnerable to exploitation and trafficking.
For years, CASH has provided a welcoming, nonjudgmental space where survivors can access safety, support, referrals, food and basic care. Their work is essential, trusted and deeply rooted in community need.
With support from Sierra Health Foundation, The City of Sacramento and local champions, CASH is preparing to move into a larger, safer and more supportive space that will allow their services to grow and their impact to deepen. Together, we’re committed to raising $1.5 million to support critical renovation and transformation of CASH’s new survivor supports hub, including essential construction updates, furnishings, equipment and the operational resources needed to ensure its long‑term success.
We invite our community to help make this next chapter possible:

• Share this message and help spread the word
• Donate directly to CASH’s capital campaign using the link in our bio
• Join us in strengthening survivor‑centered, community‑led solutions
Every contribution and post shared supports safety, dignity and healing for survivors in Sacramento. Let’s show up for CASH and for our community.

Women’s History Month is a reminder that progress happens when we invest in girls and support the community-based organizations creating pathways for them to lead. One such organization, The Center at Sierra Health Foundation’s Elevate Youth California funded partner EmpowHer Institute, is doing just that every day and expanding what’s possible for girls across Los Angeles.
EmpowHer’s Social Justice STEAM Camp trains 11- to 18-year-olds to become marine scientists, even offering 40-foot ocean dives and sailing certifications. EmpowHer’s mental health, youth su***de prevention, and substance abuse diversion programming gives girls alternatives to mainstream talk therapy. They offer boxing for stress reduction, self-defense, and emotional expression at the Girls to Greatness Teen Summit. Their media advocacy classes help girls build power through storytelling. Their matching program shirts ensure safety, belonging, and equity by removing the stress of economic disparities and putting every girl on the same level.
Thirteen-year-old Krislyn, an EmpowHer youth leader, captures the heart of this work:
“Programs like EmpowHer Institute are important because it gives Black girls a chance to explore new opportunities and experiences that will help us get into college and discover new careers. I don’t even think of EmpowHer as a program, because it is family. The girls I meet are my family and I connect with them. EmpowHer makes sure to create an environment that allows us to bond and support one another. They not only tell us that we can do something, they teach us how and then give us opportunities to excel at those things.”
Supporting young women and girls matters not just this month but every month, every day, every time of the year.

The Community Responsive Wellness Program, a Sacramento-based project managed by The Center at Sierra Health Foundation, brought community together at the Crest Theater for a powerful night of film, healing and conversation. We hosted hosted filmmaker Adimu “WOLFHAWKJAGUAR” Madyun for screenings of “Tent City” and “Haiti and DEMM,” inviting youth of color and community members to explore stories that reflect their lived experiences. We participated in Collective Breath to ground and care for their emotional wellbeing during the event. Actors from the films also joined in to share insights and connect with the audience.
We believe that when communities shape solutions and opportunities for wellbeing, systems work better because they are built with — not just for — the people they serve.

Black history is living history, built in community, carried in culture and protected through collective action. This Black History Month, we honor our elders, ancestors and everyday leaders who have always moved our legacy forward. And we recommit to what’s next: safe births, thriving babies, supported families and systems that treat Black communities with the care, urgency and the dignity they deserve.
At The Center, we’re proud to stand alongside community-led work like the Black Child Legacy Campaign because celebrating Black history also means building Black futures.

Care works best when it is built around people. People, not systems, should be at the center of the continuum of care. Through The Center at Sierra Health Foundation’s Medications for Addiction Treatment (MAT) program, our partners in the field like Choosing Change show how MAT can be delivered through public health systems with dignity, trust and community connection. By integrating buprenorphine, care teams, and group medical visits, the Choosing Change people-first model reduces barriers and supports long-term recovery. Learn more and watch the full video by clicking our link in bio.
