The Society of Professional Journalists at UCLA aims to equip UCLA students interested in journalism with information about the journalism field and opportunities for networking, internships and scholarships. We are affiliated with the national SPJ organization and are in line with their mission:

Want to learn more about digital journalism? SPJ is holding its first-ever SPJ-ONA JournCamp in Phoenix May 18, where participants will find training and tools in areas including SEO techniques and Google tools, accessing public records on the fly, sharpening your visual storytelling and mobile reporting skills, and understanding entrepreneurial journalism. The cost is $20 for SPJ members, and $40 for non-members. Spots are limited to 120 participants, so don't delay!

SPJ is seeking a candidate to fill its yearlong Communications Post-Graduate Internship for media, writing, marketing and public relations efforts. The ideal candidate should be a recent graduate (bachelor's or master's) with prior internship or student media experience in communications and/or journalism. We're looking for someone to help put SPJ in the media spotlight and assist in growing the organization and serving Society members.

The full-time position, based in Indianapolis, includes competitive salary, excellent benefits and paid leave. Anticipated start date is June 4 and will last one year.

Come to SPJ at UCLA's author event TONIGHT in Perloff Hall 1102 from 7 to 8 p.m. Meet and talk to a Northwestern Medill Journalism School alumnus about how he used investigative journalism to write a book about the life of a federal undercover agent. Bring any questions you have, and refreshments will be provided! Stop by the event a little early to meet Medill representatives and to learn about their journalism program.

How can you use journalism in other forms of writing? Don't miss an author event hosted by SPJ at UCLA with Northwestern University's Medill Journalism School's Wednesday night about the crossover from journalism to authorship. Medill alumnus Neal Hirschfeld used his journalism background to write a book about the life of Louis Diaz, a former undercover federal agent. Come and talk to Hirschfeld and Diaz about their book and what it took to write it. Learn more about the Medill Journalism program briefly before the event at 6:30 p.m.

Burt continues to suffer from brain damage during his birth:
