On Monday, January 8th, 2024, APS held the Inaugural Civic Engagement Summit at the State Capitol building in Sacramento, CA. Summit attendees included youth and professionals from across the state of California. The summit was sponsored by Assemblymember Juan Carillo and consisted of speakers including Assemblymembers Mike Gipson, Timothy Grayson, and Juan Carillo. Students also heard from a local lobbyist and political fundraisers.
The purpose of the event is to inspire community youth on careers in public service at their local and state level and to nurture their commitment to placing their profession at the service of their communities.
The Association of Professionals and Students were welcomed by Assemblymember Juan Carillo on the Assembly Floor, where he expressed the following:

APS stands as a beacon for promoting higher education, particularly for those facing disadvantages, through the dedicated efforts of professionals and students who generously volunteer in our communities.
Their core belief in empowering the next generation of leaders is evident in their tireless work, ensuring that young minds have access to the knowledge essential for pursuing higher education. Simultaneously, APS strives to instill in these future leaders the social values of service, justice, and fidelity.
