BIG ANNOUNCEMENT: Today on Juneteenth, we announce a powerful initiative to stabilize Black communities and build a brighter sustainable future through collective ownership, community-friendly capital, and collaboration. We have been intentionally working on this for 2 ½ years. It draws on Black Los Angeles’ proud history and advances our pursuit of self-determination and community liberation.

The name in itself, Liberty, tells an incredible journey. Liberty is an homage to Liberty Savings and Loan Association, the first Black-owned bank in California, founded in 1924 by a group of iconic Black businessmen and civic leaders who also established other major institutions that defined Black Los Angeles. Liberty was created to provide opportunities for Black families seeking to buy a home and establish a business, but were being denied loans by white banks.

Nearly a century later, the heavy chains of systemic racism and inequality continue and threaten to completely eliminate Black neighborhoods.

We are in a praxis moment that requires us to come together to preserve our great legacy, circle our north star and journey toward a brighter future together.

Through multiple entities, non-extractive financing, community organizing, and with the power of the people we will develop healthy, stable, and environmentally sustainable neighborhoods for Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color. We have a vision for a co-operative and restorative economy that puts people and the planet over profits, and creates opportunities for all. And we’re going to build it together.

The time is now. Free the Land. This is Liberty.

Allow the Crenshaw Subway Coalition to be crystal clear: to stand in support of the proposed Crenshaw Mall redevelopment in its current form, is to stand in support of the end of Los Angeles’ Black Crenshaw community.

I'm so tired of the racist decisions that are regularly made by the MTA board. Pushing to the back of the line the West Santa Ana branch rail project that would serve blue-collar Latino cities in the Southeast part of the county and getting rid of the Vermont subway extension that would serve South LA all to front load and gold plate new projects on the affluent Westside, along with ignoring the request to include just 2.5% of revenue towards anti-displacement tools are the 3 most blatantly racist acts that took place during the composition of Measure M. Don't call yourself a progressive if you vote for this injustice. Vote

Story in the Los Angeles Times highlighting the inequity and injustice in Measure M. Worthy projects for blue collar Southeast Cities, pushed to the back of the line for gold-platted westside projects. How is that fair?

“The building is too damn high, and the Jefferson/La Cienega intersection is already a traffic nightmare,” said Clint Simmons, a nearby resident and member of Expo Communities United.

The proposed 30-story, 320-foot Cumulus skyscraper at the gridlocked La Cienega/Jefferson intersection is the poster child for out-of-scale development that fails to respect the character and needs of South L.A. and threatens the future of our community.
