The reaction to the article in The Guardian about our work 100% reaffirms my belief that there is an absolute correlation between the racism that we see in soccer today and the negative perception people have about refugees. Football’s attempt to identify the individuals responsible for making racial remarks or throwing objects onto the field is not really the long-term answer. Rather it is our collective responsibility to instill in people a wave of emotion that doing the right thing, ie, to love and respect each other, is the only choice we can make. JerseyEX is dedicated to working on that solution and, in that regard, we will be tapping into the music world to demonstrate its support for these views. There is nothing to compare with the emotions stirred by music and the right songs sung by 10,000s of fans attending a football match will easily drown out the ugly words of a few. These photos show our first visit to Azraq Refugee Camp. Open only months before our visit to accommodate the thousands of Syrian refugees crossing the border for safety every day, the camp had no electricity and very few "essentials." We were introduced to 180 boys, each of whom was called up to receive a jersey, a handshake and a hug. That was the beginning of a strong bond we developed with the Syrian people and we made a promise not to forget them.

In 2014 Eric Angelson and I visited the Azraq Refugee Camp in Jordan, not far from the Syrian border. We brought 180 soccer jerseys packed in two duffel bags and distributed them on an afternoon to waiting refugee boys in the community center.
