Tree planting programs nationwide are at risk as the Department of Government Efficiency slashes federal funding to environmental nonprofits. This comes just as a USC study found that urban forests in central LA successfully offset 60% of the city’s carbon emissions during the growing season - proving their critical role in fighting climate change.
L.A. needs more trees, not fewer. That’s why, with your continued support, North East Trees is driving urban climate and fire resiliency forward in 2025 through key initiatives, including
launching a wildfire resilience program at the 93-acre Ascot Hills Park, expanding our Building Careers and Canopies Program to train and employ up to 60 youth while planting 800 new trees in Watts, developing eight new green schoolyards to provide shade and healthier spaces for students, and creating two community-led parks in public housing developments.
With federal funding at risk, we need to build a stronger base of support now more than ever. Your generosity is what keeps our work alive, ensuring that L.A. remains green, healthy, and resilient in the face of climate change.
