SoCal CAN stands in unwavering solidarity with our immigrant students, families, neighbors, and friends.
We are heartbroken and outraged by the escalation of fear-based tactics targeting immigrants in our communities. This should be a time of celebration and achievement - students walking across graduation stages, families gathering to honor milestones, and communities coming together in pride. Instead, raids and military deployment are creating anxiety and disruption during what should be our most joyous moments. SoCal CAN categorically denounces these cruel and divisive actions that undermine the rights, safety, and well being of families who are integral to our region’s strength and vitality.
To the students and families we serve: we support you and we stand firmly with you. We recognize that immigrant families embarked on their journey to this country carrying dreams of opportunity and hope, with education often serving as the cornerstone of their vision for tomorrow. Education has always been a bridge to possibility, and no amount of fear or intimidation can extinguish the flame of learning that burns bright in our communities. Continue to pursue your studies and hold fast to your dreams - we pledge to walk alongside you on this journey.
To our network members: thank you for the vital work you do every day. We celebrate those who are standing up through advocacy and peaceful protest, empowering students with the resources they need to make their voices heard in civic dialogue, and maintaining pathways that keep students moving toward their educational dreams, especially during this critical time. Each of us has unique gifts and talents to offer, and we honor them all.
Our commitment goes beyond words. SoCal CAN will continue providing resources and support for immigrant students and families, collaborating with trusted partners to create safe havens, and amplifying the voices of those impacted through continued advocacy at the federal, state and local levels. Together, we are stronger than the forces that seek to tear us apart.
