Huge To***co Wins From FDA and California
This morning, in a highly anticipated decision, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has extended guidance and regulatory authority to all to***co products, including e-ci******es, ci**rs, ho**ah to***co and pipe to***co. Prior to today's news, the FDA only regulated ci******es and cigarette-related products and smokeless to***co.
This historic rule allows the FDA to restrict the sale of these to***co products to those under the age of 18, thus improving public health and protecting future generations from the risks of to***co.
"This action is a milestone in consumer protection -- going forward, the FDA will be able to review new to***co products not yet on the market, help prevent misleading claims by to***co product manufacturers, evaluate the ingredients of to***co products and how they are made, and communicate the potential risks of to***co products," the FDA said in announcing the changes.
In addition, exciting news came out of the state of California on Wednesday where Gov. Jerry Brown signed into law a bill raising the legal purchase age for ci******es and other to***co products to 21 years from 18. California follows Hawaii as well as cities including New York City, Boston, Kansas City, Mo. and Evanston, Ill. Lawmakers in more than 10 other states are considering similar legislation including New York, Kentucky, Oregon and Illinois. The Massachusetts Senate passed a bill last month to raise its legal purchase age to 21. That bill still must be voted on by the state House of Representatives.
