*FROM THE ARCHIVE* - She Wears Her Rage Gently (alternately: Scavenged Stories), 2019

We did this photoshoot with Chassey Bennett in collaboration with the Wit Theatre for our original launch back in 2019 - it was an exploration in creating story out of scraps of forgotten furniture, torn bits of fabric, and found art. We’ve always been interested in squeezing new ideas out of fragments of the old: now we’re just making that official.

But what does that actually look like, you may ask?

We can’t wait to show you…but we’ll have to wait just a little bit longer….

*FROM THE ARCHIVE* - Blessed Are the Branded, 2026

Here’s a classic pic of Holleigh Locklyn, the Hobby-Lobby obsessed Christian Tradwife Influencer character from our most recent digital project, Blessed are the Branded. She had a motto: “find meaning in the little things.” While her version had a sinister bent and ended up sending another character spiralling into spiritual psychosis, there’s something true about that catchphrase. Stories are everywhere; meaning is everywhere. All you have to do is look. All you have to do is be open to finding them. Stories belong to everyone - and the little unexpected ones can sometimes be the most magical.

That’s the vibe we want to harness with our live shows and events: the feeling of stumbling upon something surprising, exhilarating, and magical…like coming across a fairy circle in the forest.

We want to make art that feels like running through a forest…both figuratively and literally.

We’re exploring how we can take “theater” and make it outside of a “theater”- how can we bring live performance to unexpected spaces, and how can we use those unexpected spaces to deepen the stories we want to tell?

And then also, how can we make them really fun and whimsical AF?

Can we do it?

Only time will tell…

Fun fact about Beating of Wings: we were founded (and largely are still run) by a bunch of creative artistic women with ADHD (or, “LadyHD,” as our Associate Artistic Director likes to refer to it as…). Sometimes, it feels like we have so many ideas and big dreams, our heads might fill up to bursting until they explode. We’re on a mission to help each other harness and focus our creative skills to create something sustainable and consistent. Will we succeed? We have no idea. But it could be fun to stick around and find out…it could be cool and inspiring to watch us succeed, or at the very least, a humorous experience to watch us fail.

Hey Birdies! Thanks for being here, whether you followed us or stumbled upon us out in the wilds of the algorithm.

We’re currently in the depths of the delicious, exhilarating (and terrifying) process of rebuilding and rebranding ourselves, with the goal of leveling-up our work, building more organizational infrastructure, and better reflecting how our artistic identity and ethos have shifted and evolved since our inception in 2019.

Part of this process includes thinking a lot about what we value as theater makers, and what theater and storytelling means to us in the first place. We’re experimenting with ways we can redefine and rediscover the art of live storytelling and challenge the conventions we’ve come to associate with it.

Our conversations (and our work) have always centered around merging the tension between modern resonance, innovation, and radical irreverence and an engagement with our lineage as storytellers and performance artists: how do we draw from the legacy and traditions of performance, theater, and storytelling, and make them feel new at the same time?

We have some ideas on how to do it…and we can’t wait to share them. But in the meantime, we want to know….

Hi Beautiful birdies, and happy September!

We’re announcing an exciting new chapter for Beating of Wings very soon…but while we wait for the big reveal, we’re revisiting some of our past work. This photo, taken by Andrea Decker , was from our 2024 dance project Our Feet Off the Ground. The show reimagined classic fairy tales through a feminist lens. We’re drawing a lot of inspiration from fairy tales these days…what do you draw inspiration from?
