South Africa’s Archbishop Desmond Tutu was an early international voice speaking against Arizona’s SB1070 law. The so called “papers please” law that empowered local law enforcement to check on the immigration status of people living in and visiting Arizona.

He remained an ally to the undocumented and immigrant communities of the US and throughout the world. He would receive the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts advocating for the marginalized.

His passing is a great loss for humanity.

A Texas judge ruled the Biden Administration must resume a Trump era policy of Remain in Place, due to technical reasons that Biden didn’t follow proper procedures to shut the program down.

The practical outcome is that asylum seekers must remain in Mexico until their cases can be heard.

Once again, Biden is failing the immigrant community who got him elected. We will remember this in 2024.

Depending on who is the president will largely determine how your parents will be deported;
Republicans like large scale workplace raids,
Democrats like to lie in wait and apprehend individuals.

Both parties play this deportation game. Neither wants to appear weak on immigration, beholden to an electorate they despise but who votes reliables…nationalists.

But the more people they deport the more the affected community grows. I always begin organizing meetings with the same question: “how many here personally knows someone who has been deported?” In over 10 years I have never not seen hands raised.

The fact remains, people are being deported who would have a pathway to citizenship under any immigration bill proposed. And the bill must include family reunification.

We demand a pathway to citizenship.
We demand an end to deportations until a bill is passed.
We demand to be reunited with our families.

No more fcking Empty Chairs at our dinner tables.

The US continues to deport people who would otherwise have a pathway to citizenship if an immigration reform bill were passed. And we demand that any bill include family reunification.

Joe Biden has the power to declare a moratorium on deportations until a pathway to citizenship bill can be passed that includes family reunification.

Over the past 20 years we’ve invested enough in America: taxes, assets, knowledge, and created resources for others to succeed. And we are continually held to very high standards. There was no room for mistakes for us as teens and young adults under some vague promise that there is a reward of citizenship, sometime, not now, but sometime. Just keep getting good grades. Just keep working. Just keep being a model citizen.

America’s longest war did not end overseas. It is the one being fought against us future citizens. Undocumented young adults who have spent our educational years in the US and all our working life here only to be told we cannot receive the rewards of our achievements. And we can be taken from our families at any moment and sent to countries we don’t know.

Undocumented, Unafraid, and Unapologetic, we will no longer continue with this rollercoaster of emotions. Permanent immigration reform is needed. And demanded.

Advance Parole is a glance of what can happen if we were able to travel.

We need a permanent solution to reunite families. Not all of us are as lucky to be able to have this opportunity.

We cannot continue to go through the emotional burden waiting to see if our Advance Parole request satisfies the “emergency” requirement.

On September 5, 2017, Attorney General, Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III, on behalf of Department of Homeland Security and the Trump Administration, announced the rescission of the June 15, 2012 Obama Administration policy of DACA.

As a practical matter, the Attorney General has no say in Department of Homeland Security (DHS) or USCIS policies, but it was consistent with the Trump Administration criminalizing immigration and immigrants.

Chief Policy Analyst for DREAM Team LA would give her unfiltered reaction in real-time to the announcement.

The segment would make the national nightly news for NBC. Just one of the many times DTLA sets the national dialogue on matters related to immigration reform and immigrant rights.
