Last year’s alumni versus resident softball game ended with the alumni going home victorious and the residents going to their rooms at BTS with lessons in recovery. Will the alumni come in full force and show the power of recovery once again or will the residents bring the trophy home to Beit T’Shuvah?

It’s been three years.

But grief doesn’t keep a calendar.

Today, we remember the lives taken, the families shattered, and every soul still carrying the weight of October 7th.
In recovery, we learn the importance of braving the pain together. So today, we light a candle, sit with the hurt, and keep showing up for each other. Together, we can get through anything.

For those taken from us too early, may their memories be a blessing.

At 23 years old, Max M. has already spent a surprising amount of his life becoming different versions of himself. There was Max the quiet kid with dreadlocks down his back who loved heavy metal. Max the teenage drug dealer. Max the kid on probation. Max the party guy with co***ne and a reputation. Max the Deadhead dropping acid and chasing higher consciousness. Max the artist. Max the skeptic. Max the guy sleeping in his car. And eventually, Max the guy doing ketamine every day while his body gave him increasingly difficult warnings that something was very wrong. Addiction, he realizes now, made him remarkably good at shape-shifting. “I think as addicts, we can be the ultimate chameleons. We can hide from the world better than so many people can.”

unspeakable tragedy that changed our country forever. In honor of those who lost their lives, the brave first responders, and everyone around the world who felt the ground shake from this horrific act of terror, we must pause today to honor their memories.

It is of note that this year, Erev Rosh Hashanah falls on this important day in American history. A day of remembrance. A day that reminds us all that no matter what acts of horror are inflicted upon us or around the world, we must stand together. We must stand with hope. We must stand with love. And we must never forget.
