Everyone has the right to redemption, which is why we never turn a single soul away due to an inability to pay.

“May you who have come be blessed in the source of life!” We say this welcome prayer every week…but what does it really mean?

Dance. Dance like no one is watching. Jake P. does when he leads Shabbat service on Saturday mornings. As a Spiritual Counseling Intern at Beit T’Shuvah, he brings charm and flair to every service he leads and every session he has—speaking in poetic prose that could be needlepoint stitched into decorative pillows. Although they’d be hard-pressed to provide the same level of comfort as the words do themselves. So, who is this bearded mystery man who mixes simcha and break dancing? He’s one of us. He’s family.

A little bit of BTS BTS (Beit T’Shuvah Behind The Scenes). The halls are always alive. So, here’s a few snapshots of a day in the life of a community like none other.

He laid on my couch, face up, staring at the ceiling—a posture I had never seen in a spotlight interview. When I asked him why, he told me he wanted it to feel like a “Freudian session.” I’m not a psychologist, so I won’t try and diagnosis that, but here are the facts: David is like no one I have ever met before, and his humor is only outmatched by his heart. You’ll see what I mean.

Every year on Shavuot, Jews stay up all night learning Torah. This Shavuot, as we have always done, we will once again see that Torah is not a single story. It is a multitude of souls and the variety of your voices, including YOURS.

Join us for a night of stories, wisdom, and honest reflection, a Tikkun Leil Shavuot built from the voices of our community: residents, alumni, staff, and guests, each sharing a piece of Torah that lives inside them.

Torah isn’t just a text. It’s a mirror. And when people in recovery hold it up, something extraordinary happens.

Come for one talk or stay for all of them. Come to learn, to be moved, or just to be in the room. The coffee will be hot, the Torah will be real, and the night will be long in the best possible way.

Gently tinted days had music drifting in the background. Asaf L.’s dad used to take him camping, and he would make mix tapes pretending he was a DJ. He was once a little boy teaching himself guitar, making fake radio broadcasts, and trying to make people laugh. Asaf was the self-proclaimed mascot of his family. He reflects with a grin, “the cute kid who said funny sh*t,” and danced to MJ in a red patent leather jacket. Sit down with Asaf and you’ll meet someone intelligent, funny, self-aware, and deeply human. He carries contradiction gratefully, cynical yet hopeful at the same time. Look beyond his personal brand of muted charm, and you’ll find someone who has struggled much of their life just to feel okay.

There is a saying in recovery circles that untreated addiction points only toward three possible outcomes: jails, institutions, or death. When a person checks into and out of the former two, accounting for the wreckage of further relapse can become bleak; a daunting consideration of the only remaining fate. It takes a certain breed to weather and rebound from despair, loss, and captivity. It takes someone fiery and stubborn enough to keep going. An all-American woman forged in honesty and a certain tomboy brand of grit—someone like KC H.: candid, resilient, and unwilling to let her lowest moments be the final word.
