Concern Foundation for cancer research

We are dedicated to raising and granting funds to support innovative cancer research. They wanted to make sure their dollars count in the fight against cancer.

CONCERN is an appropriate acronym (Conquer Cancer Now) for one of Los Angeles’s best-known and most beloved charities. A volunteer driven non-profit organization dedicated to raising and granting funds to support cancer research. Concern Foundation is a rarity in the nonprofit world by keeping its administrative overhead to a minimum, so that $.95 cents or more of every dollar raised goes directl

y to critical cancer research. Conceived out of friendship, the Concern Foundation was about meaningful issues from the very beginning. Fifteen Los Angeles couples joined together to give purpose to the life of their friend, Beverly Wolman, not yet 40, who was battling a diagnosis of terminal cancer. The group immediately made the decision to fund cancer research—specifically, a new emerging area in cancer research, cancer immunology directed by Dr. David Weiss at the Lautenberg Center for Tumor Immunology in Jerusalem. Thanks in part to the support of CONCERN, this research was accepted for evaluation in 1970 by the National Institutes of Health and today has become a benchmark for some of today’s breakthroughs for early diagnosis, treatment cures for this insidious disease.

For more than five decades, Jackie Gottlieb has helped shape Concern Foundation’s mission and impact through extraordinary leadership, dedication, and volunteer service. This year, we are proud to honor Jackie with the Steve R. Freed Spirit of Concern Volunteer Leadership Award at our 2026 Annual Block Party. 💛

As a co-founder, former president, and current Board Chair, Jackie’s commitment has helped Concern grow into a world-class organization that has raised and granted more than $80 million to support groundbreaking cancer research and advance hope for patients and families everywhere.

In Jackie’s words:

“The Concern Foundation has been an integral part of my life since we founded it in the 1960s to honor my dear friend Beverly Wolman of blessed memory. It has been a joy to watch Concern grow from a fledgling group that my late husband Stanley and I helped start with several other couples. I thank you all for being a part of this incredible journey to conquer cancer and I look forward to working with everyone to continue to grow this organization that emanated from my heart.”

🧠 May is Brain Cancer Awareness Month 💙

This month, we recognize the importance of advancing research for brain cancers and honoring the scientists working to create better treatment options and hope for patients and families affected by these diseases.
