A Light in Dark Places

A Light in Dark Places Encouraging healthy discussion, creating community and offering hope to those affected by su***de www.alightindarkplaces.org

A Light in Dark Places (ALIDP) is an LA-based, non-profit organization that uses performing arts to bring understanding about the topic of su***de, raise awareness of what signs to look for, provide resources to those in need, and offer hope to those struggling with the loss of a loved one, suicidal ideation and other mental health conditions. We use the arts as a catalyst to teach us how

to safely discuss our mental health, how to reach out, and how to best serve each other in times of need. The American Foundation for Su***de Prevention estimates that 129 people die by su***de per day in the United States. Every death by su***de affects an average of one-hundred people, and there are statically twenty-five attempts for each completed su***de. Despite these high numbers, there continues to be stigma and misunderstanding surrounding the topic. We believe that a piece of the solution is to shift how we view su***de and other mental health conditions as a culture. Our mission is to encourage healthy and informed discussion, to break down stigma, and to create a community where reaching out is encouraged, not shamed. We often think of art as something we experience. But sometimes, art is something we create simply because we need somewhere for our emotions to go 💛✨

What has helped you express what you couldn't always say?

Validation isn't about having the right words. It's about letting someone know they don't have to carry it alone. 🕊️

The stories that make us laugh often leave us with something even more meaningful. 🤍

Valeria shares why she loves “comedy with heart” and how that idea shaped The Three Sisters, a film about forgiveness, family, and healing.

It’s a beautiful reminder of the power art has to make us laugh, teach us something, and even help us heal.

The Three Sisters (Las Tres Sisters) is streaming now on Amazon, Apple TV, and STARZ.

Grief doesn’t come from remembering them, it comes from missing them 🫶🏽

When someone is grieving, it can be hard to know what to say. But sometimes, simply saying their loved one’s name can be one of the kindest things we can do. 💛
