The Hollywood Alliance is a grassroots org encouraging proactive action to create a better quality of life in Hollywood, California for residents, businesses, property owners, and all stakeholders. The Hollywood Alliance is an "umbrella" organization of residents, property, and business owners working in tandem with the police, fire, and other concerned organizations and stakeholders. The Alliance
's purpose is to join forces with these organizations, share vital information and take proactive action in order to enhance the quality of life in Hollywood. In order to achieve desired results, each Alliance Volunteer Committee works as a team and creates action steps and goals to make a significant difference from a grassroots level. Many of the current issues in Hollywood include but are not limited to: increased traffic, parking, homelessness, crime, prostitution, gangs, environmental impact, a decline of neighborhoods including Hollywood Boulevard, libraries and parks/recreation, etc, etc. The Hollywood Alliance was formed in 2013 by Hollywood citizens, Chris Shabel and Jacquie Shabel, who have been concerned about the state of plummeting quality of life in Hollywood, California. The Hollywood area faces unprecedented over-development while facing the reality of an increase in crime, homelessness, and insufficient and antiquated infrastructure. The Hollywood Alliance is an outgrowth of the Vine Street Improvement Association and the Hollywood Stakeholders Alliance originally founded by Chris Shabel, and the Downtown Hollywood Neighborhood Watch and Hollywood Square Neighborhood Watch Founded and Organized by Jacquie Shabel. Loose boundaries of Hollywood include Hollywood Hills (North) to Beverly Blvd (South), West Hollywood (West) to Normandie (East). Our elected officials ignore their constituent's calls for restraint and are continuing with plans that are against the perimeters of the 1988 Hollywood Community Plan. The multitude of proposed massive developments and their side effects will fundamentally change Hollywood forever. Hollywood is being dismissed to the point of decay, stripping the historic area of its monumental value. The Hollywood Alliance envisions the revitalization of Hollywood that represents a vision of safe livable and sustainable neighborhoods, which reflect, preserve, and enhance Hollywood's unique cultural and historic character for its residents, business and property owners, and tourists. Definition of Sustainable Development: "Development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” Examples include Solar Energy, Wind Energy, Crop Rotation, Efficient Water Fixtures, and Green Space. (Our Common Future, also known as the Brundtland Report)
All too often, development is driven by one particular need, without fully considering the wider or future impacts. We are already seeing the damage this kind of approach can cause, from large-scale financial crises caused by irresponsible banking to changes in the global climate resulting from our dependence on fossil fuel-based energy sources. The longer we pursue unsustainable development, the more frequent and severe its consequences are likely to become, which is why we need to take action now. The way the Los Angeles City Council approaches development affects everyone. The impacts of their decisions as a society have very real consequences for people's lives. Poor planning of communities, for example, reduces the quality of life for the people who live in them. (Sustainable Development Commission)
