L.A. Compost

L.A. Compost Connecting the people of Los Angeles to the soil, and each other. L.A. Compost is a sustainable movement that promotes healthy, conscious communities.

Our mission is to equip and empower people to facilitate their own green spaces. This is accomplished through programming that diverts food and yard waste from landfills to create compost, supports edible school gardens, and partners with communities to establish their own composting systems.

The Magic Soil Bus has begun making its journey across LA! 🚌🪱✨

Earlier this year, our newest educational endeavor officially hit the road, making stops at schools, community centers, and public events.

Every visit has been nothing short of magical, from gleeful laughter at finding a Roly-Poly in the compost to "a-ha" moments as youth connect the dots between their food scraps, compost, and the healthy soil that helps plants grow.

We’ve witnessed how valuable it is for youth to have these experiences. It sparks curiosity, gets them excited to learn, and helps them better understand their role in supporting our local environment.

We’re excited to continue expanding Magic Soil Bus visits across LA!

We’re closing out with a highlight on our favorite way to compost: WITH COMMUNITY! 🙌🏼🪱🌱

From the beginning, we’ve known that composting food scraps is more than diverting food from landfills, it’s a way to build something together and connect with one another. When food scraps are composted locally, the benefits can ripple outward, supporting green jobs, healthier soils, local food systems, and opportunities for environmental learning.

May 3rd-9th is International Compost Awareness Week! 🪱🥬🍉🥑

Celebrated on the first week of May, the week is an opportunity to spread the word about the benefits of compost and inspire friends and family to start their compost journey. 🙌🏽

Composting recognizes the interconnectedness between every person who eats and the Earth that provides all of our food, as well as our agency in feeding the earth our scraps so that the soil may continue to provide for us abundantly. Compost grows healthy soil, healthy food, and a healthy California. 🌱
