API Forward Movement

API Forward Movement We are cultivating healthy, long-lasting, and vibrant Asian and Pacific Islander communities through grassroots organizing.

Forward: With the current state of our country and the new administration, we are faced with leadership that wants to move us backward--to roll back the rights and access we have fought so hard for in the name of racial, social, economic, and health justice. We are challenging this affront with a clear emphasis on pushing forward. Pushing forward to protect the basic rights of our diverse, immigra

nt families and beloved communities. Pushing forward to expand those rights and enhance access to the resources we all need to live healthy, vibrant lives in empowered communities. We want to be forward in our approach to advocacy and justice, and to support everyone in looking forward, with hope, to a better tomorrow. Movement: Localized, grassroots organizing in our Southern California API communities is the foundation for our work because we are committed to building movements for healthy change. We want to continue fusing advocacy, education, and leadership development, so that the people who are directly impacted are the people driving not only the conversation, but also the change. And for us, as a health justice group, movement means getting both physically and politically active. When we hike, bike, walk or roll together, we aren’t just exercising--we are also actively facilitating one another’s growth to become local health activists who are part of a larger movement for healthier communities. Our new mission is clear: Forward Movement is here to cultivate, healthy, long-lasting, and vibrant Asian and Pacific Islander communities through grassroots organizing. This identity honors the work we have already been doing--working with API community members throughout Los Angeles County, Orange County, and beyond to increase access to healthy foods and healthy environments--and conveys our ongoing commitment to tackling, as organizers, the root causes and systemic issues that inform our ability to live healthy lives.

Hear why Yuchang (2025 MYARC cohort member) believes protecting public lands matters! 🌿 Yuchang shares how public lands are deeply connected to the communities around them, providing space, resources, and protection for both people and wildlife. Protecting these areas means preserving natural habitats and making sure future generations can experience them too. 🌱🏞️

🌄 May 2nd marked the 2nd anniversary of the 2024 expansion of the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument - a huge win for our communities and our future. This expansion increased protections for critical habitat, clean water sources, and cultural landscapes, while helping bring more attention, resources, and long-term stewardship to these mountains.

For API youth in the San Gabriel Valley, the San Gabriels are more than just a backdrop - they are a place to hike, heal, learn, and build community. Protecting these lands means protecting access to nature, cultural connection, and a healthier future for generations to come. 💚

But our public lands are still under threat - from budget cuts, staff rollbacks, and efforts to prioritize profit over protection. The latest round of threats proposes to slash even more USFS resources.‼️

✊ Join us in calling on Congress to protect and fund the San Gabriel Mountains through the San Gabriel Mountains Forever campaign.

On April 15–16, Leah and Naeomi from our Enroll LA team headed to Sacramento for California Immigrant Policy Center (CIPC)’s Immigrant Day of Action ( )! 🏛️ Together with statewide advocates, they engaged in crucial conversations on farmworker justice, food sovereignty, and the realities of immigration enforcement and its impact on mental health

Our team joined Jackie from Nourish California to meet with Senator Lola Smallwood-Cuevas’ office to support the campaign and AB1049, which aims to eliminate sponsor deeming in the California Food Assistance Program (CFAP). We highlighted critical barriers affecting API communities, including public charge & sponsor liability, lack of culturally relevant produce, and limited language access. 🗣️

With the current exclusion of humanitarian immigrants from CalFresh, these gaps further weaken food access systems for communities already in critical need of assistance, emphasizing the importance of expanding CFAP. was a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when we fight together for immigrant, health, and food justice! ✊

✨ Take Action: Support the movement by contacting your state legislators and joining the Food4All Coalition or CIPC's mailing list (🔗 in bio).

🌱 Our Farm to School program is back for Spring at Kids Town, Bitely Elementary, and Sanchez Elementary! We’re exploring the theme of growth and learning what plants need to thrive: sun, water, air, space, and soil. ☀️💧🌿

Students enjoyed a hands-on lesson by regrowing scallions in water and discovering how plants grow step by step. Classrooms will care for their scallions and later transplant them outdoors. We can’t wait to keep learning and growing together this season! 🪴✨

🌱 Seasonal Produce Highlight: Sugar Snap Peas! 🫛✨

The oh-so wonderful snap peas are a popular, crunchy staple in modern Asian cuisine. They’re loved for their sweet, crisp texture and are commonly prepared using quick stir-fry methods with garlic, ginger, and sesame oil to retain a bright green, blistered finish. 💚

These small but mighty peas are a highly nutritious, low-calorie, and fiber-rich vegetable that promotes heart health, aids in weight management, and boosts immunity. They’re packed with vitamins C and K, helping build immunity, support bone health, and reduce inflammation. Their low-glycemic, high-fiber nature also helps stabilize blood sugar.

Stay tuned for our next seasonal produce highlight!
