Join the Walk to School Day Challenge and AARP Community Challenge — make signs to activate your school crosswalk and be part of the auditing. This event is in part of the Watts Towers Day of the Drum & Jazz Festival happening this weekend!!

We’re bringing prop-making supplies (bring extra if you want to get creative — “Slow Jams for Safer Streets” energy 🎶) to build props that highlight safer streets and crosswalks for kids walking to school. The walk and bike audits are part of the AARP Community Challenge grant.

🎨 PROP MAKING: Walk to School Day Challenge 🚸

Join the Great Los Angeles Walk to School Day Challenge — come make signs to activate your school crosswalk!

Los Angeles Walks will be providing prop making supplies but feel free to bring additional supplies so we can get creative, and help build props (think: “Slow Jams for Safer Streets” energy 🎶) that will bring attention to safer streets and safer crosswalks for kids walking to school.

It’s only 1.2 miles from Downtown Inglewood Station to SoFi Stadium—but is it an easy trip? And for whom? 🚶‍♀️🦽

This summer reminded us that a successful transit trip doesn’t end at the station. A truly accessible connection means a continuous, intuitive path that works for people of all abilities.

Our June audit brought disability advocates directly into first/last-mile planning—testing the route with mobility devices and identifying sidewalk, crossing, and wayfinding gaps.

Getting to the match should be part of the experience, not an obstacle course. ⚽️🌍 Improvements made for LA28 can leave a lasting mobility legacy for everyone.

Thank you to the Metro First/Last Mile Team for bringing lived experience into the planning process and partners LA Commons CicLAvia | LA Pop-Up Parks who activated the station and open streets events.

Nuestra auditoría de junio incorporó directamente a personas con discapacidades en la planificación de la primera y última milla, identificando barreras en banquetas, cruces y señalización.

Llegar al partido debe ser parte de la experiencia, no una carrera de obstáculos. ⚽️🌍 Las mejoras para LA28 pueden dejar un legado de movilidad más accesible para todas las personas.

Gracias al equipo de First/Last Mile de Metro por incorporar la experiencia vivida al proceso de planificación y socios que activaron la estación y eventos de calles abiertas.

We’ve been keeping busy—in the best way.
Since April, our team has averaged about a dozen community events every month, bringing people together through walking, biking, transit, arts, and community.
To recharge and get ready for an exciting season ahead, our office will be closed August 3–10.
We’ll be back with more walk audits, community dances, transit activations, and other opportunities to explore Los Angeles together. Thank you for being part of this journey. See you soon! 🚶🏽‍♀️🚲🚌

¡Han sido unos meses muy movidos!
Desde abril, nuestro equipo ha realizado un promedio de una docena de eventos comunitarios cada mes, reuniendo a personas de toda la ciudad a través de caminatas, paseos en bicicleta, transporte público, arte y actividades comunitarias.
Para recargar energías y prepararnos para una temporada llena de nuevas actividades, nuestra oficina estará cerrada del 3 al 10 de agosto.
