HFS Last Three Classes Recap 🌿

These final sessions we moved through deep embodied work around identity, emotional release, and joy reclamation.

⚖️ Workshop 6: The Weight We Carry – Letting Go of Emotional Burdens
We explored emotional weight through somatic, trauma-informed practices using physical objects to represent what we carry. Participants named what feels heavy, reflected on what is connected (and not connected) to vision loss, and considered what it means to release, transform, or hold burdens differently. Naming what we carry became a first step toward shifting it.

🎭Workshop 7: The Mask We Wear – Inner & Outer Self
Through a tactile mask-making process, we explored the contrast between public identity and inner emotional experience. The outside reflected how others perceive us, while the inside revealed what is often hidden.

Reflections centered on societal expectations of “strength,” what we feel pressured to conceal, how vision loss shapes identity, and where we feel safe enough to be fully seen.

🎉Workshop 8: Joy Reclamation – Reconnecting with Pleasure & Meaning ( Our last workshop)

Participants created tactile or sensory objects representing joy—past, present, or emerging. This session reframed joy not as forced positivity, but as something that can coexist with grief, change, and complexity.

We reflected on:
• how joy changes over time
• how creativity helps reclaim pleasure and meaning.

It was indeed a joyous class, not just celebrating our art, but acknowledging the growth in each of us and the community that we have become!

Now We INVITE YOU!
✨ Please join us this Saturday in meeting all the artists, and see, touch, smell their creations and get to know this unique powerful program! Come celebrate with us.

🌳 Hands on Wellness – Class 5 Recap: Growth Rings 🌳

“Trees grow in rings over time. Some seasons bring growth, some bring hardship—but every ring tells a story.”

In our fifth class, participants created their own tree rings, stacking layers that represent their past, present, and future—a tactile reflection of the journeys that shape who they are and becoming.

✨ The process was deeply creative and intentional:
Foundations came to life through family, faith, connection to animals, and inner strength—the roots that carried them through life’s challenges.

🍂 In the present, participants named their season:
Some felt spring—blooming, expanding, becoming
Others felt fall—resting, releasing, hibernating
Every season honored. Every moment valid.

Layer by layer, they built living timelines—rings holding hardship, resilience, and abundance. A reminder that:

🌀 Our foundations ground us.
🌀 Our seasons shape us.
🌀 Growth is inevitable.

We’re nearing the close of this journey and feeling the depth of transformation in this space.

Stay with us and experience this transformation in person. SAVE THE DATE! Come meet our artist at the culmination eventt!

✨ Hands on Wellness – Class 4 Recap: Emotion Sculpting ✨

In our fourth class, participants explored emotion through touch, form, and imagination—creating tactile sculptures that gave shape to feelings like fear, joy, frustration, calm, overwhelm, and hope.

This sensory-based practice centered emotional literacy, grounding, and expression beyond visual cues, inviting deep self-exploration through questions like:
What am I feeling?
Where does it live in my body?
What in nature reflects this emotion?
What helps transform it?

The creativity in the room went far beyond expectations.
🌿 Islands emerged, holding symbols of family and love for nature
☕ Cafés and fountains of love took shape
🧸 Teddy bears embodied comfort and joy
🌮 Even tacos appeared—reminders of simple happiness

We witnessed resilient hearts—some cracked, stretched, or fragmented—yet still whole, still healing, still powerful.

Both our English and Spanish classes became spaces of collective care and collaboration. Participants supported one another in navigating new textures, sharing clay techniques, and building confidence together.

Reflections reminded us how much this space matters—many shared how they look forward to class as a place of regulation, peace, and connection.

We are officially halfway through the program, and we’re deeply grateful for the growth unfolding in this community.

🎨🛡️ Hearts for Sight | Hands-On Wellness Series
Workshop 3 Recap: Strength Shield 🛡️✨

Last week we gathered for our third workshop in the Expanding Mental Wellness for the Blind and Visually Impaired through Art Expression series — a powerful session focused on empowerment, resilience, and self-advocacy.

Participants created tactile strength shields, using materials like image and word stencils, bump dots, tape, paint sticks, Wikki Stix, and tote bags to design symbols that represent their personal strengths, cultural heritage, and protective factors for mental wellness.

The process invited deep reflection through guided conversations:
• What strengths protect your mental wellness?
• Who or what helped you develop these strengths?
• How do you show courage in the world as a blind or visually impaired person?
• What does empowerment look like in your daily life?

Throughout the workshop, participants shared openly, supported one another, and transformed their reflections into tactile shields of resilience and identity.

Each shield became a tactile reminder of courage, identity, and inner strength — something participants can carry forward as part of their healing journey.

Grateful for the openness, creativity, and bravery shared in this space.

✨ Workshop 3 complete — more wellness, art, and community ahead.

🌟 Hearts For Sight at the 3rd Annual Burbank Adaptive Sports Expo! 🌟

We are proud of our incredible team members Racquel, Yvette, and Joan for representing Hearts For Sight Foundation at this year’s Burbank Adaptive Sports Expo! 💙

Throughout the day, they connected with community members, shared information about our accessible health and wellness programs, and highlighted the powerful impact we’re making in the lives of individuals who are blind or visually impaired.

From hiking, beach trips, surfing, paddling, yoga, White Cane camping, and more — our programs are designed to promote mental wellness, connection to nature, and community belonging. 🌊🥾🌲

We were also excited to recruit dedicated volunteers — the true backbone of our outdoor programs. It’s because of their time, heart, and commitment that we’re able to create safe, empowering, and life-changing experiences for our participants.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth, learned more about our mission, and explored ways to get involved. Together, we are expanding access to health, wellness, and outdoor adventure for the blind and visually impaired community. 💪🏽✨

🤍✨ Hearts for Sight | Workshop 2 Recap
Tactile Poetry & Braille Affirmations ✨🤍

Last Friday, our second hands-on wellness gathering deepened the journey of Expanding Mental Wellness for the Blind and Visually Impaired through Art Expression.

For two hours in English and two hours in Spanish, participants explored voice, self-compassion, and language as tools for healing through tactile poetry.

Using spoken word, and audio recordings, participants created haikus and affirmations rooted in their lived experience.

This workshop centered three powerful guided reflections:

• What affirmation do you need right now?
• What words describe your healing journey?
• How does language shape your emotional experience in English or Spanish?

Participants wrote their first lines, shared reflections from the heart, and witnessed one another with courage and care. The room was filled with vulnerability, joy, and deep listening.

After reflection and sharing, participants decorated their frames — turning their words into tactile works of art they could hold, feel, and return to.

One beautiful affirmation shared:

✨ “Hoy tengo fuerza

Con paz estoy contenta

Yo voy a florecer”

(“Today I have strength, with peace I am content. I am going to bloom.”)

Language became touch.
Touch became healing.
Healing became a community.

We are honored to hold this space — where expression is accessible, bilingual, sensory, and rooted in dignity.

This was Workshop 2. And we are just getting started. 🌿💛
