An inclusive world starts with me, with you, with all of us.

UNICEF’s Disability Inclusion Policy and Strategy envisions a world where children with disabilities grow up in barrier-free, inclusive communities—where they are supported to realize their rights and participate fully in every aspect of life.

At Inclusion Matters by Shane’s Inspiration, this vision is at the heart of what we do. Through inclusive playgrounds, education, and community programs, we work to remove barriers and create spaces where children of all abilities are welcomed, valued, and given meaningful opportunities to participate.

As an organization with Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), we take our role in advancing disability inclusion seriously and thoughtfully. We know lasting change requires more than accessibility. It requires challenging stigma, listening to people with disabilities, creating opportunities for meaningful participation, and building communities where everyone belongs.

Because an inclusive world doesn’t happen on its own. It starts with each of us.

Why We Run

One of our favorite Run, Walk & Roll teams is the Crowe team, led by longtime Team Captain Mark Demos—and they know how to bring the team spirit!

Each year, Mark rallies an incredible group of employees from Crowe Advisory LLC AND matches his team’s fundraising. How many Team Captains do that?!

But there’s more. Mark and his colleague Glenn Richards set a fundraising goal for the team, and if they reach it, Mark and Glenn dress up in costume and RUN the event. Let’s just say… some of those costumes have been pretty crazy!

This year, they’ve embraced our storybook theme with the perfect team name: The Crowe That Laid the Golden Egg.

This team knows how to raise funds, spirits, and awareness for Inclusion Matters by Shane’s Inspiration, and we could not be more grateful! As Mark says, "We run for awareness because awareness leads to inclusion."

Some moments are just too sweet not to share!

Our former Inclusion Facilitator, Mallory, recently visited our newest inclusive playground at Elysian Park and put the playground’s ASL learning board to good use—teaching a group of kids how to spell “TACO” in American Sign Language!

It’s a fun little moment, but it represents something much bigger. Inclusive playgrounds create opportunities for children to discover new ways to communicate, learn from one another, and connect through play.

And apparently, tacos are a pretty universal way to bring people together!

Once an Inclusion Facilitator, always part of the Inclusion Matters family. Thanks for continuing to spread inclusion, Mallory!

This Is Greatness.

The road to LA28 is underway, and in 2028, Los Angeles will welcome the world’s greatest Paralympic athletes for the city’s first-ever Paralympic Games.

At Inclusion Matters by Shane’s Inspiration, we believe greatness begins with opportunity—the opportunity to play, participate, discover your strengths, and dream about what’s possible.

For nearly 30 years, we’ve worked to create those opportunities for children with disabilities through inclusive play. We can’t wait for a new generation of children to watch Paralympic athletes compete right here in Los Angeles and see strength, determination, talent, and possibility reflected back at them.

I Am... a Teammate.

Sometimes teamwork starts with something as simple as a ball.

One buddy sends it rolling down the slide. The other catches it and sends it right back. Before long, they’ve created their own game—and they’re playing it together.

This kind of back-and-forth play builds turn-taking, communication, anticipation, and cooperation. But even more importantly, it creates connection between two children who are discovering how much fun they can have together.

That’s the power of inclusive play. Give children the opportunity to play side by side, and they’ll find their own way to become teammates.

Equipment Spotlight: The Oodle® Swing

More than just a swing—it’s a place to play together.

Designed by our longtime playground partner, Landscape Structures Inc., the Oodle® Swing comfortably brings four to six children together for a shared swinging experience. Its spacious seat and transfer point make it easier for children who use wheelchairs or walkers to join the fun alongside siblings, friends, and buddies.

For nearly 30 years, Inclusion Matters by Shane’s Inspiration and Landscape Structures have worked together to redefine what inclusive playground equipment can be—moving beyond simply providing access to creating play experiences that encourage connection.

Because the best playground equipment doesn’t separate children by ability. It brings them together.

That’s the power of inclusive play.
