Cal State L.A. Swarm Robotics

Cal State L.A. Swarm Robotics Cal State L.A. Swarm Robotics is participating in the NASA Swarmathon, a challenge to develop cooperative robotics to revolutionize space exploration!

This student driven project allows its participants to gain experience in working collaboratively on a large complete software development project while learning how to research and develop search algorithms and enhance their object oriented programming skills. The robotics competition enlists the usage of ROS (Robot Operating System) on the Linux operating system (Ubuntu) which ensures that the s

tudents involved are developing the skills necessary to operate on these systems. Our team consists of students majoring in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and computer science, showing diversity in underrepresented members in the related field, including underrepresented minorities and women.

Great article!

Before there were digital computers, there were "human computers," women who used pencils and paper to do the math that helped carry the U.S. into space. Nathalia Holt tells their story in a new book.

Last night was Yuri's Night at the California Science Center. A few of our team members got to meet Buzz Aldrin, Italian astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti, the SpaceX crew, JPL engineers, and fellow space enthusiasts! Yuri's Night is named for the first human to launch into space, Yuri Gagarin, who flew the Vostok 1 spaceship on April 12, 1961. Check out these 2 robots socializing under the Space Shuttle Endeavor - wish our Swarmies could have attended!

Our Cal State LA Swarm Robotics students are trying to raise money to travel to Kennedy Space Center to compete in the 1st Annual NASA Swarmathon competition April 19 - April 23rd. NASA covers our entry cost to the KSC but unfortunately, there is no direct funding for student travel. We estimate that the total cost of travel for our team of 20 will be between $17,000 and $18,000. That includes airfare, hotel, rental cars, and food. We would really appreciate any contributions from you! All donations are tax-deductible, as they are operated through the university.

********PLEASE MAKE SURE under the "Designation" section that you put "Other", then type in "Swarm Robotics" (otherwise your donation goes to the school, but not to our team)*********

Thanks so much for your support! https://www.calstatela.edu/givenow/secured/donation

In order for Cal State LA to designate your secure tax deductible donation to the Swarm Robotics team, please fill out and submit the secure form within the embedded web page below.

It's Oscars day! Here is a great article comparing the technologies used in the movie The Martian vs. real NASA technologies: http://www.nasa.gov/feature/nine-real-nasa-technologies-in-the-martian

Andy Weir’s “The Martian” tells the story of Mark Watney, a NASA astronaut stranded on Mars. He must improvise and innovate to survive. NASA is already working on some of the technologies he uses to try to stay alive.
