πŸš’ This afternoon Los Angeles Fire Department Firefighters responded to a massive warehouse fire in Boyle Heights. With solar panels burning on the roof and an ammonia leak with heavy black smoke, a stay-in shelter order was set for the local community. While firefighters have extinguished the roof fire, and knockdown has not yet been declared and the stay-in shelter remains in place with a smoke advisory for local residents.

Today, we're asking our UFLAC family and the community to rally around one of our own.

Brother Shawn Lenske is facing every parent's worst nightmare as his daughter battles a rare form of cancer. While Shawn has dedicated his life to serving others and protecting the people of Los Angeles, his family is now facing a fight they cannot take on alone.

Shawn has been forgotten by the Department that he dedicated his talents to due to a work related injury. Let's show Shawn and his family that they are not forgotten by their union brothers, sisters, and supporters.

Please consider donating, sharing, and keeping the Lenske family in your thoughts as they continue this difficult journey.

We received word from the LA City Clerk that our UFLAC led citizen initiative to FundLAFire.com has received enough valid signatures to qualify for the November 2026 ballot. Thank you to everyone who supported our efforts to hire additional firefighters and paramedics, build more fire stations, and purchase more fire trucks, engines, and ambulances in the most understaffed big city fire department in America. This initiative isn't about politics. It's about finally funding the Los Angeles Fire Department with guaranteed, dedicated revenue so that we can show up on time when just a matter of seconds can mean the difference between life and death. πŸ™πŸš’

Today, June 5th, is the 9-year anniversary of the tragic passing of Los Angeles Fire Department Firefighter Kelly Wong, who died on June 5, 2017, from injuries sustained during an on duty training exercise. At just 29 years old, Kelly’s commitment to service to our city was only surpassed by the love he had for his family, especially his wife, Danielle, and his son, Colton. UFLAC honors memory and celebrates his life, today and always. May God Bless and watch out for the Wong family.

At one of the busiest fire stations in America, Los Angeles Fire Department Firefighters at Station 11 in Pico Union respond to an average of 41 emergency calls each day. About 80% of these responses, ranging from drug overdoses and assaults to structure fires and medical emergencies, are directly related to the homelessness crisis. The current situation is simply unsustainable and has got to change.
