Saint Sophia Philoptochos is a women’s organization dedicated to serving the poor in the Los Angeles area through the Saint Sophia Cathedral.

Philoptochos is the backbone of philanthropic activity throughout the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese in America. Through our vigorous outreach program Philoptohos benefits worthy charities, families, and individuals, both nationally and internationally. Local shut-ins are visited, given gifts during the holidays, the poor are housed, fed, and buried, and are remembered by the Church. All women of our

Church are highly encouraged to consider membership in this vital group.“ To aid the poor, the destitute, the hungry, the aged, the sick, the unemployed, the orphaned, the imprisoned, the widowed, the handicapped, the victims of disasters, to undertake the burial of impoverished persons and to offer assistance to anyone who may need the help of the church through fund raising efforts...”
