Jewish Cuba Connection (JCC) is proud to announce the expansion of its humanitarian food assistance program to include the eastern Cuban communities of Santiago de Cuba and Guantánamo, extending critical support to elderly Jewish residents facing ongoing food insecurity.
For years, Jewish Cuba Connection has worked in partnership with local Jewish communities in Cuba to provide monthly food packages to seniors living on limited incomes. Due to rising food shortages, inflation, and supply disruptions across the island, the needs of elderly Jews—particularly outside Havana—have grown increasingly urgent.
“With this expansion, we are reaching some of the most isolated and vulnerable members of Cuba’s Jewish community,” said [William Miller of Jewish Cuba Connection. “Many seniors in Santiago and Guantánamo live alone, on fixed pensions that are no longer sufficient to meet basic nutritional needs. Providing food is not just a matter of sustenance—it is an expression of dignity, care, and communal responsibility.”
The expanded program will provide regularly distributed food packages containing essential staples such as rice, beans, cooking oil, and protein, tailored to the needs of seniors. Distribution will be coordinated through trusted local Jewish leaders and community networks to ensure aid reaches those most in need.
Santiago de Cuba and Guantánamo are home to small but historically significant Jewish communities. Until now, limited resources and logistical challenges have made consistent food support difficult in these regions. The program expansion marks an important milestone in Jewish Cuba Connection’s mission to support Jewish life throughout the entire island.
