Korean American Coalition - Los Angeles Throughout the years, KAC has developed various programs aimed at empowering and educating the community.

The Korean American Coalition- Los Angeles (KAC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established in 1983 to promote the civic and civil rights interests of the Korean American community. Since 1983, KAC has assisted over 40,200 immigrants to become U.S. citizens and registered voters; co-founded the Black Korean Alliance in 1988, and launched the 4.29 Center in 1997 to provide dispute resolution

and interethnic outreach; coordinated victims relief efforts after the 1992 Los Angeles Riots; successfully lobbied for bilingual voter registration forms and sample ballots in California; conducted forums, seminars, and workshops on the American political process and pressing social issues; trained more than 800 college students in leadership development and community organizing; and sponsored over 200 college internships. KAC has continued to work closely with government agencies and elected officials to promote more responsive governance and policy making that impact the community. KAC also developed broad coalitions with other ethnic communities around shared concerns.

Over the past five weeks, our KIP interns, selected from NCLC 2026, turned research and ideas into a thoughtful, innovative civic engagement project designed to increase Korean American voter participation.

Along the way, they attended community and professional events with LEAP and CAUSE, and connected with mentors who offered valuable guidance for their professional journeys.

A special thank you to Jamison Properties for generously providing office space for our 2026 KIP interns, giving them a dedicated place to collaborate, exchange ideas, and bring their project to life.

Today, we commemorate the 81st anniversary of #광복절 ( ), or “Restoration of the Light,” marking Korea’s liberation from Japanese colonial rule on August 15, 1945.

Gwangbokjeol reminds us that resilience is a core part of our history; we honor the sacrifices of those who came before us by remembering and carrying their legacy forward.

From June 22–26, 2026, KACLA hosted the National College Leadership Conference (NCLC), our premier leadership development program, at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California.

Over five immersive days, college students and recent graduates from across the nation developed the leadership, networks, and professional skills needed to thrive in their careers and make a meaningful impact in their communities. Through interactive workshops, cultural education, and career mentorship, participants connected with 25 accomplished Korean American leaders across law, government, business, healthcare, media, entertainment, education, technology, and the nonprofit sector.

📢 Applications for KAC Model United Nations are NOW OPEN for the 2026–2027 school year ‼️

KAC MUN is a nationally recognized, award-winning leadership program with a proven track record of equipping students with the confidence, skills, and experiences to become exceptional leaders, speakers, critical thinkers, and community advocates.

If you're an incoming 8th–11th grader in Southern California who is ready to challenge yourself creatively and intellectually, grow alongside an inspiring community of peers, and become the best version of yourself, we encourage you to apply!

No previous MUN or debate experience is necessary.

We’re excited to share another powerful speech from Ctrl + F: Finding Yourself, this year’s KAC MUN community advocacy project.

Meet Sua Bahk, a 9th grader and first-year KAC MUN student. In her speech Weird, Sua reflects on a comment from her sister about her Korean fluency, prompting an examination of her relationship with Korean identity and what was lost in the effort to assimilate into American culture.

Centered on themes of identity and belonging, Ctrl + F: Finding Yourself features 25 powerful speeches from KAC MUN students ranging from middle school to high school. Their stories will challenge, resonate with, and inspire you as they reflect on what it means to grow up Asian American today.

We’re excited to share another powerful speech from Ctrl + F: Finding Yourself, this year’s KAC MUN community advocacy project.

Meet Eugene Kwon — an 11th grader, second-year KAC MUN student, and this year’s Vice President. In his thoughtful and sophisticated speech, A Ship With No Planks, Eugene draws on the Ship of Theseus paradox to examine the Asian American immigrant experience, asking what remains of our identity when each part of it is gradually replaced, plank by plank.

This was a monumental year for KAC MUN. In the past year, our delegates achieved:

🌟A generational leadership team led by our incredible president Sophia Kim

Beyond the awards and milestones, every single student grew as a speaker, leader, advocate, and the most confident, vibrant version of themselves. We deeply appreciate all the energy, passion, and commitment they brought to KAC MUN this year – we couldn’t be prouder!
