ArtsCore member Sarah Nichols welcomes sound designer Joey Luck, her collaborator for a case study she conducted as part of her master’s dissertation several years ago through the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. Adapted into an article for the Voice and Speech Review in 2022, Sarah’s research explores the potential for voice coaches and sound designers to be closer collaborators on a theatrical production’s creative team, as they both have a direct impact on the sonic landscape of a show.

Join Sarah and Joey as they reflect on the successes and challenges they experienced during their collaboration on a university production of Machinal, and participate in an open discussion about what improved collaboration might look like, to bolster relevancy and demand for voice coaching in a theatrical setting.

Video conference information will be provided in an email once payment is received—registration is free for VASTA members!

As a new academic year approaches, join colleagues for an hour of focused conversation, reflection, and connection centered on preparing for the classroom. Designed with the North American academic calendar in mind, this event offers an opportunity to discuss strategies for starting the semester strong, share ideas and challenges, and connect with fellow voice and speech professionals.

Whether you’re teaching a new course, refining an existing syllabus, balancing freelance and academic work, or simply looking to begin the year with renewed purpose, this speed networking session will help you exchange ideas, expand your professional network, and head into the semester feeling supported and inspired.

Please note: While this discussion is framed around preparation for the August/September start of the academic year common at colleges and universities in North America, colleagues from all regions are welcome. We encourage participants to adapt the conversation to their own academic calendars.
