Join planners from across California for a facilitated Listening Session hosted by the Planner Emeritus Network (PEN) and the California Planning Roundtable (CPR) to help shape a special workshop at the 2026 APA California Conference.

These 60-minute sessions are an opportunity to share concerns, experiences, and questions about the future of planning as the profession faces unprecedented challenges. We are excited to partner with the Thai Community Development Center to host a walking tour of Los Angeles’ Thai Town! 👏🏽 Founder and director Chancee Martorell will discuss the origins of the Thai Town Cultural District and how urban planners can become advocates for underserved communities. The tour will highlight exciting culinary, placemaking, and cultural attractions that are part of this vibrant community.

APA Los Angeles Partners with CSUN Department of Urban Studies and Planning 📚

Our Section Director, Roderick D. Hall recently spoke with graduating seniors from California State University, Northridge’s (CSUN) Department of Urban Studies & Planning. APA Los Angeles was proud to engage in conversation with students about their final project, what they hoped to accomplish in the planning field, navigating the transition from undergrad to the workforce, and the role APA Los Angeles could play as they moved into their next chapter.

CSUN is also home to the records of the California Chapter of APA. The American Planning Association California Chapter Collection documents the administrative activities of the Chapter, as well as the broader history of planning in California in the 20th and early 21st centuries.

Join APA Los Angeles for our inagural 2026 Summer Speaker Series, entitled “City of Angels: Celebrating the Beauty and Resilience of Los Angeles”. ☀️

This summer speaker series brings together urban planners across Los Angeles County to celebrate the beauty of LA—found in its people, places, cultures, and climate. Through three monthly gatherings, the series highlights how planning can honor identity, uplift communities, preserve cultural legacy, and prepare the city for a changing future.

We’re thrilled to kick off the series in honor of Pride Month with a virtual panel entitled “Pride, Identity and Impact in Planning”, where a moderated panel will discuss the role of LGBTQ+ planners have in shaping our communities; personal stories, professional journeys, and community impact, and planning as a tool for equity, creativity, and systems change.

On May 2nd, planners and community members explored the heart of Los Angeles’ Little Ethiopia community with a walking tour. Food, culture, entrepreneurial spirit, and placemaking were key themes as organization Destination Little Ethiopia led APA members through Central LA.
