Behind every student crossing a milestone is a community that believed in them.

At the 2026 AltaMed Escalera Culmination Ceremony, we celebrated students who have spent the past two years building skills, exploring health care careers, and preparing for success in college and beyond. Their achievements are a testament to their hard work, as well as the power of partnerships that make programs like Escalera possible.

For Niki, the inspiration to pursue nursing started with family.

Long before the scrubs, there was a little boy learning what care looked like through the compassion and support his sister modeled as a nurse.

His journey, made possible in part by the AltaMed Nursing School Collaborative, is proof of what’s possible when opportunity meets determination. And he’s not done yet; Niki is now working toward becoming a nurse practitioner so he can do even more for patients.

When you walk into an AltaMed clinic, you might notice something unexpected — art on the walls.

We believe healing isn’t just clinical. The spaces where people receive care should feel welcoming, reflective of community, and even comforting. Art can calm anxiety, spark joy, start conversations, and make spaces feel welcoming and human.

That’s why art is part of our approach to whole-person care.

For many students, support starts with a moment —

a space to pause, to be heard, and to feel understood.

Through school-based behavioral health programs, that space becomes possible. By meeting students where they are, care extends beyond the walls of a clinic and into the communities it serves.

Sometimes, it starts with a blank page.

Through art therapy, young patients are finding new ways to express emotions, build confidence, and feel seen — no words required. These vision boards are a glimpse into what healing can look like.

With support from Hyundai Motor America, AltaMed is expanding access to creative, hands-on mental health care for children and teens. This year, 11 AltaMed therapists received specialized training to bring art therapy into their work, creating more space for connection, self-expression, and growth.

When leaders across sectors come together, new models of care become possible.

AltaMed is proud to partner with CalOptima Health and the City of Santa Ana to expand a Street Medicine Program that brings health care directly to people experiencing homelessness — reducing barriers, building trust, and creating pathways toward stability.

The leaders pictured here represent what it takes to move this work forward: shared commitment, cross-sector collaboration, and a belief that care should meet people where they are.
