Last Chance for Animals (LCA)

Last Chance for Animals (LCA) Last Chance for Animals is an international non-profit animal rights organization, founded in 1985.

We are known as the "FBI of Animal Rights" and conduct undercover investigations around the world. Last Chance for Animals (LCA) is an international, non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating animal exploitation through education, investigations, legislation and media attention. LCA believes that animals are sentient creatures who exist for their own reasons independent of their service to

humans and therefore opposes the use of animals in food, clothing production, scientific experimentation, and entertainment. Instead, LCA promotes a cruelty-free lifestyle and the ascription of rights to non-human beings.

🚨TOMORROW IN TORONTO - PROTEST TO STOP YORK UNIVERSITY’S PRIMATE RESEARCH 🚨

📍 WHEN & WHERE
Monday, August 24th
3 PM – 5 PM
Meet at benches in front of Subway restaurant (no affiliation)
105 The Pond Rd, Toronto, ON M3J, Canada

At 3 PM, we will gather at the benches in front of Subway before walking together to the protest location at/ by York University for a peaceful protest and friendly public outreach. It is easiest to find each other by arriving at the beginning, but if you arrive late please check back here in the discussion tab for location updates.

Signs, banners, and leaflets will be provided. This protest will focus on outreach to raise awareness and sharing the call to action. If possible please avoid large, unrelated logos on clothing (such as brand names). Let’s be respectful to all and work together to help the animals.

We are coming together to raise awareness about the suffering of nine rhesus macaques currently being experimented on at York University... and to demand a future beyond animal testing.

This protest is not only about York University. It is about the future of science and ethics in Canada.

Around the world, there is increasing momentum toward phasing out animal testing in favour of modern, non-animal research methods. The United States and the European Union are already moving in this direction. Instead of defending outdated and cruel experiments on highly intelligent primates, Canada should be investing in humane and innovative science.

Join us to stand up for compassion, science without suffering, and a better future for both animals and humans.

Rodeos are extremely cruel and violent towards animals. This so-called “sport” is nothing more than terrified animals trying to escape something that causes them fear, discomfort, and pain.

While at the protest, please do not engage with the rodeo goers who are clearly entrenched in the rodeo and the abuse of animals.

Save your voices for first-timers and those who may truly not know what happens at rodeos.

We hope to see as many activists as possible!

ℹ️ BACKGROUND

Last year, LCA exposed beagles used in toxicology tests at Nucro-Technics. The investigation exposed beagles living in small, barren cages; experiencing adverse reactions to test items, (collapsing, vomiting, and skin lumps); and beagles being rough handled during tests. At the end of experiments, Nurco-Technics killed the beagles and threw them out in the trash.

Britches is one of the most iconic images in the history of the animal rights movement.

In 1985, a one-month-old baby monkey named Britches was rescued from a laboratory at the University of California, Riverside (UCR).

Britches had been torn from his mother at birth. His eyelids were sewn shut. An electronic sonar device was strapped to his head, blasting a high-pitched noise every few minutes as part of a research experiment.

The Animal Liberation Front (ALF) raid that rescued Britches exposed the reality of animal research to the public. LCA Founder and President Chris DeRose was the ALF spokesperson in the 1980s.

Britches was taken to a sanctuary in Texas, where he was adopted by an elderly macaque who had already raised several orphaned monkeys. He lived to be 20.

The raid disrupted eight of the 17 studies, and they were never restarted. UCR also stopped sewing infant monkeys' eyes shut, according to reports the university filed with the government.

The National Institute of Health (NIH) later investigated the laboratory's animal care program and declared it appropriate, requiring no corrective action.

Animals, like Britches, still suffer in animal research and animal testing across the globe. Animal research needs to end.

Behind laboratory walls, animals are suffering in silence.

For nine months, an undercover LCA investigator worked inside York University in Toronto, caring for nine rhesus macaques used in neuroscience experiments.

What they documented is heartbreaking: barren steel cages, restraint collars, cranial implants, severe psychological distress - and evidence that some monkeys were so deprived of water they drank their own urine.

Without LCA’s undercover investigation, none of this would have become public.

Now, LCA is calling for an end to non-human primate research at York University and the surrender of the nine macaques to a sanctuary.

Please visit www.SaveTheYork9.com and click TAKE ACTION to send your message to York.

Every major victory for animals begins with the truth. And the truth begins with an investigation.

Please help us continue exposing cruelty that others work so hard to hide. They cannot tell their own stories. They are depending on us.
