Partnership for an Equitable Los Angeles was founded in 2010 and is an inter-degree program student organization in the Sol Price School of Public Policy. We were founded after graduate students held several conversations on community engagement and urban planning, then decided the Price School needed an arm to discuss these issues. We have a tradition of collaborating with Price School student gr

oups, USC-wide student groups, and local community-based organizations to bring community panels on to the Price School's campus. In addition to raising awareness of community issues, our annual events include professional workshops, faculty dinners, site/project tours, and socials to get to know Los Angeles.

Last Friday, we took Price students along for our PELA Social Justice Bike Ride. Folks from Tenemos que Reclamar y Unidos Salvar la Tierra-TRUST South La led us through different parts in South LA as we learned about some of the land-use and affordable housing issues in the neighborhood. We ended our ride debriefing with some tasty tortas catered by Chichen Itza Restaurant at the nearby Mercado La Paloma.

Despite the rain, folks showed up for our Housing Justice Tour: An Exploration of Local Housing Issues where we got a chance to visit affordable housing projects developed by the East LA Community Corporation and Skid Row Housing Trust. This was a great opportunity for students to gain insight on how crucial stable and secure housing is for the most vulnerable.

We’ve collected dozens of signatures in support of a ballot measure that would expand voting rights to parolees and incarcerated individuals. We’ll be in RGL courtyard for a little while longer today, and several times this week.

If you’re an LA county resident and want to create a more equitable democracy, come sign our petition!

Great news! The Supreme Court will not take the Dreamer Case for now and while this might be a temporary stall, we must continue the fight for a long-term solution for all DACA recipients!

The court said the government's appeal on the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program should be heard by a court of appeals first. Trump had wanted to end the program by March 5.

A sad day for the constitution. In a 5-3 decision, Supreme Court rules today that immigrants and asylum seekers can be held indefinitely in detention without guarantee of a bond hearing. Advocates will continue to fight this decision in the lower courts, and it can be revisited.

In a 5-3 decision, the Supreme Court has said that detained immigrants don't have the right to periodic bail hearings.
