SENATE Proposes New Education Bill; Debate and Mark-Up This Week

A new bipartisan Senate ESEA proposal, "Every Child Achieves Act of 2015," retains the core academic subject section from No Child Left Behind that had been eliminated in an earlier version, and adds "music" as a specific core academic subject in addition to the "arts."

The draft bill is available for review with specific language concerning core academic subject designation on page 529. Also, the Senate HELP Committee and Senator Murray, Ranking Member on the HELP Committee, have released a summary of the bill. Mark up (a term used to debate, adjust and amend the bill) of the bill will start tomorrow, Tuesday, April 14; the procedure will be live-streamed and posted on the Senate HELP Committee website. As of this date, the House has not resumed its debate of the education bill.

As music and arts education advocates, we urge you to contact your Senator today (via phone or email) to thank them for including music and arts as part of the core curriculum and to reinforce that federal policy must clearly state that music and arts education be part of the core curriculum so every child has this opportunity as part of a whole and complete education.

After a long summer of tribulation the ongoing project known as The Center for Creative Cultivation is back! (And we're still EPIC!!!) We are currently in the process of seeking out new venues and volunteers to help host our amazing new lineup of events, artists, musicians, and meetups. Everything from the grandiose to potluck. Instead of spending the winter bundled up on the couch warm yourselves in the glow of our growing community. We're gearing up for classes and bashes for the masses and would LOVE to see you be a part of it! If you have a fresh event space available for rent of any size or know someone who does, please contact The Center, Sally Stinnett, or Michael Nemo immediately so we can start negotiating!

With the coming of the new year The Center for Creative Cultivation would like to offer many new opportunities for our supporters to come together and create art, memories, and a future for the young artists of tomorrow. To do this we are going to need a little help from you. What we are looking for are locations in the Los Angeles area to host fundraiser events ranging from figure drawing classes and artist workshops to all out extravaganzas. If you have a a space or know any one who has a a space available please contact us as soon as possible.
