When Alain LeRoy Locke College Preparatory Academy was struggling under LAUSD management, educators stepped up.
For nearly two decades, students, families, teachers, and community leaders have worked together to transform educational opportunities for young people in Watts.
Today, that progress is at risk.
Despite years of improvement, the Los Angeles County Office of Education is recommending denial of Locke's charter renewal.
That decision could force the closure of a school that serves hundreds of students, disrupt families, and jeopardize the jobs of the educators who helped make Locke's transformation possible.
If school improvement is the goal, progress like this should be recognized—not reversed.
