No two of our school gardens are alike, and that’s exactly what makes them so exciting! Each garden is unique and we love experimenting with different growing techniques and crops at each school. 🍓

One thing they do all have in common? They’re thriving at this time of year! Take a peek at these recent photos from Grand View Boulevard Elementary and Wilshire Crest Elementary and see what you can spot growing and blooming. Which garden feature catches your eye? 🌼

There’s a world of possibility in the garden, and every harvest starts with a seed! 🌱

This summer at Annalee Elementary, we’re building a brand new greenhouse that will be ready for seedlings this fall. At Mary W. Jackson Elementary, we’re harvesting crisp cucumbers, juicy passionfruit, and vibrant pomegranates grown with love by our students throughout the year. From seed to table, together we’re building a future where more young people can experience the joy of growing their own food. 🥒

Today we invite you to join us as we celebrate Director of Development Elizabeth Hall’s ten years of impact with GSF! Over the past decade, Elizabeth has contributed to every major program and initiative and helped GSF achieve incredible growth and success. Her work has ranged from creating digital Seed to Table learning guides during the COVID-19 pandemic to piloting the Cafeteria to Compost program at Grand View Boulevard Elementary. She has worked countless Farmers Markets and helped shape GSF’s food security efforts. Longtime volunteers know her well and often look forward to seeing her friendly face at Community Garden Days.💚

As Director of Development, Elizabeth leads grant writing, reporting, fundraising campaigns, and strategic development efforts. Under her leadership and thanks to her exceptional grant writing skills, GSF has achieved funding milestones that once seemed out of reach. The direct impact of this funding has been tremendous, enabling GSF to further develop the Cafeteria to Compost program, expand food production, and sustain Seed to Table classes at each school site. 🌱 🪱 🍎

We thank Elizabeth for a decade of dedication, leadership, and vision that have left a lasting mark on the organization and our school communities. 👏 👏 👏

Help us celebrate this milestone by clicking the link in our bio to make a $10 contribution to honor Elizabeth’s ten years with GSF. Congratulations, Elizabeth! 🎉

Tomato season is here! 🍅

The gardens at Leapwood Avenue and 99th Street have been experiencing super abundant tomato harvests these past few weeks. We’re sharing these beauties with school staff and volunteers and always love trading recipes like our Tomato Orzo Salad with Fresh Mozzarella and Summer Pasta Salad. Tell us your favorite way to eat tomatoes in the comments!

Volunteers keep our gardens thriving! 💪This past school year 1,500 volunteers contributed over 4,800 service hours across all our school sites. Together, they helped us build a reading library, install a pond, harvest hundreds of pounds of produce, and lay down countless wheelbarrows of mulch!

To express our gratitude, we invite you to join us for a Volunteer Appreciation Celebration at the upcoming Community Garden Day on Saturday, July 11th from 9am-12pm at 99th Street Elementary! Join us for special surprises, giveaways, and garden activities. RSVP at [email protected]. See you at the celebration! 🌼
