Starting in June, the meeting, while open to all, will become primarily gender focused. At an average PFLAG meeting, transgender persons and their families are often in the minority. Although we warmly welcome all participants, we can’t always provide the deep level of understanding that comes with personal experience. As transgender issues become more visible in the media, requests to PFLAG for g
ender identity resources have become more pressing. Fortunately, the leader of the Silver Lake meeting is a gender activist who has been quietly fulfilling that role. The meeting formerly known as Silver Lake will devote extra focus and resources to people of a variety of gender experiences including, but not limited to, transgender, gender nonconforming, gender questioning, gender creative, q***r, and tr*******al. We hope their parents, family members and friends will also participate. We will continue to welcome those seeking to give and receive support in the sexual orientation coming out process. We are committed to united advocacy and education for LGBTQ issues, since our solidarity is vitally important for community and societal change. We recognize, however, that the daily life of someone amid a gender journey is often very different from someone amid a sexual orientation journey. We aim to provide a special support space for the unique priorities and challenges associated with a wide diversity of gender journeys. Check out our website for further announcements.pflagla.org

Whether your are LGBTQ or the parent or loved one of a person of any age dealing with issues of sexual orientation and gender identity, you will have the opportunity to talk about your experiences, ask questions, and get information. The group is run by trained facilitators with the support of parents and chapter leaders from PFLAG Los Angeles who have gay children. We operate as a satellite chapter of PFLAG LA. Participants’ identities are completely confidential and you are invited to come and listen if you don’t feel ready to talk. http://www.pflagla.org/meetings.html
Meetings are held in the Rosa Parks Room at The Metropolitan Community Church at 4607 Prospect Avenue, Los Angeles 90027. You can access the Rosa Parks Room by entering through the gate on Prospect Ave. Because parking is sparse, there is a restaurant up the street that offers a flat fee of $3-$4 and was recommended by MCC staff. We hope this works out as a temporarily solution for some: The Dresden Restaurant. 1760 North Vermont Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90027
