Why marry a mariner?
A question always asked to girls who decide to be a sailor's Queen.. Yeah you heard it right; "Sailor's Queen" .. It's true that they have to sacrifice a lot.. The distance is often heart breaking.. But do you have any idea of the joy a sailor's queen enjoys when her Sailor is coming back home ? Ask a Sailor's Queen.. About how her man is different from the common every day husbands.. About the surprises he gives her.. About the non stop honeymoons they have every time he returns home.. About their unconditional love across the oceans.. And if you still feel all that is nothing when compared to the lonely nights when her sailor is away, we totally understand you. Because it's not every girl's cup of tea.. God chose the brave ones to be the better halves of Sailors..

SHIP ENGINEERING DIARIES

"Engineering team seen through the eyes of a Chief Engineer/Bada Sahab"

• The First Assistant engineer / Second Engineer is always your “go-to man”. He has the highest load bearing capacity, executes all engineering plans and is often over-worked. He is your manager, Engineer, technician, Mechanic and Bosun as well. His urgency is not spared even during parties and always dreams about going ashore at the next port while he knows he wouldn’t be due to the list of pending jobs. His “Ache din” will start when he becomes a Bada Sahab. 😊

• The second assistant engineer / Third engineer is a “morale booster". He’s got this bigger resposibility of the auxiliary engines, boilers and can’t help but come up with undeniable strategies. He uses the inherited wisdom well and that essence is well acknowledged in the team.

• The Third assistant engineer / Fourth engineer is the “achaa bachaa” He hates sounding the bunker tanks but wants to get that dam calculation right. That’s his ticket to C/E’s good books 😄. He’s also trying to improve his calibre by helping to complete the paper work and maintain good relations with the First and the Second assistant engineers.

• The TME / Fifth engineer is a kid “Jiska abhi jahaz pe mann nahi laga” He misses his friends and wonders where the hell has he ended up?? The rolling is just un-bearable and this pipe line he is tracing seems to go on forever. After two months onboard he feels he’s better than the Third assistant engineer and by the time he finishes his contract he feels ready to take over as the Chief Engineer of the ship 😉.

• ETO / Batti Saab. He’s like an elected member onboard. Well connected with all. The higher ups and the masses equally. He can offer some useful advise on everything. I have known one who had a zest for colours and made some amazing paintings too.

• The Fitter “Jo doobti naiya paar lagayega” If Dolphin’s are a man’s best aquatic friend than a Fitter is a First engineer’s best friend at work. How will he handle any emergency without him. And How about that PSC inspection defect list he needs to sort out. You just couldn’t live without a fitter onboard!! Could you??

• The Motormen “Jahaz ke zimedarr nagrik” They move around like spies (In a good way) and are always aware about every little thing that is happening. If they wouldn’t bring up their valuable tips, Where would we be??

• The Wiper “He’s always trying to fish those tips from the motormen and is like that sprinter who’s always trying hard to win a medal at Olympics” He’s going to give his best to make it to the podium this time👍.

Do you know what's the most adorable thing in Sailors' Queens?
We'll tell you..
She sulks when the company gives Joining call to her man. Though that may be few more weeks to go, still she becomes afraid; she becomes stubborn for more conversations with her man.. She demands for spending more time with her.. She watches her man sleep peacefully; and wonders if she could stop time; then she wont have to go through that waiting time again.. From day 1 to day 180 or more.. A silent tear rolls down her eyes, because she knows that she will have just pillows to hug after a few days.. She snuggles close to him, and he wraps her in his arms sleepily.. Somehow she finds the courage, and sleeps.. She knows wherever he goes; he is gonna come back to her. Wherever he is, he will think of her & miss her..
And then when that day arrives, she won't find words to tell him anything .. She will confide all her love in just a few "Take care, Eat well, don't over work.." But her heart yells "I love you, Come back to me soon" .

And as she watches him walk away, she prays that time flies, till the day he returns back with a broad smile on his face..and she can find herself once again.. in him..!
