Quick little weekend recap:
Our team was out and about starting with Summer Fest at Chuco’s Justice Center in collaboration with Youth Justice Coalition L.A. and many other great local orgs! We gave away over 500 edible sprouts including tomatoes, hibiscus, chives, peppers, melons & more! Thanks Cerca Cultivation for the generous donation!

Then we headed to Griffith park for Independent Shakespeare Co. Climate Action Week! Over 40 zero-waste artworks were made by local community members as they enjoyed an evening of outdoor theatre under the stars!

For too many of our young program participants, the “outdoors” ends at the edge of the community garden.

A Defender 130 wouldn’t just help us transport art supplies and garden tools—it would help us launch our first-ever Wild Art Trips, bringing young people from urban Los Angeles to beaches, forests, mountains, and rivers to create art where inspiration lives.

RuckusRoots is thrilled to announce that we have been selected as 1 of 5 finalists in the Defender Service Awards - presented by Chase, in the Outdoor Accessibility Category. Public voting begins on July 29th, 2026! Each category finalist will receive a $5,000 donation from Presenting Partner CHASE, to support our mission. If we are selected as the winner, we will win a customized Defender 130 vehicle and $30,000 in prize money.

YOU are a huge part of how we can win the top prize! We will post the public voting link on July 29th and we are asking for your help in getting us to the top! Starting on July 29th and every day through August 14th please cast your vote for RuckusRoots! Each unique email address can vote once per day during the voting period!
