“Protect Our Oceans” is a collaborative mural made by the students at Glenfeliz Elementary as part of our Wild Art program there in 2023! Made entirely of recycled plastic and cardboard, it features many local species endangered in and around the coastal areas of Southern California!

RuckusRoots is seeking designers, artists, and makers to participate in our upcoming TRASHion Show & Fundraising Gala this summer.

We’re looking for bold, imaginative wearable art created from reclaimed, recycled, repurposed, and unconventional materials. Whether you’re an experienced designer or an emerging creative experimenting with sustainable fashion, we’d love to hear from you!

All smiles today as we finally get to share this wonderful peek into our spring Wild Art program!

Teaching artist worked with the 6th and 7th graders from Isana Octavia Academy as they learned all about the ecology and wildlife of the Los Angeles River, making both upcycled artworks and a collaborative mural themed around the nature right here in L.A.

💚Wild Art spring 2026 was funded in part by TahDah Foundation, Thelma Pearl Howard Foundation, California Arts Council and ISANA Octavia Academy.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: We’re partnering with this summer for a very special summer camp! 🧵♻️🎨👗

“Tinkering Camp: TRASHion w/ Ms Leah” will teach campers the skills they need to turn their wildest imaginings into wearable fashion made from scraps and recyclables! With a 6:1 camper to facilitator ratio and hands-on instruction in tool use, there will be plenty of time for play and exploration in a safe, supportive and encouraging environment.

This artwork was created as part of Jefferson Park Artbook and Zine Fair during a workshop facilitated by RuckusRoots at the invitation of Able ARTS Work. Intergenerational participants were encouraged to explore complimentary colors while depicting CA native flors and fauna. We’re proud to share this peice is in it’s forever home now at the Jefferson Park Library branch, made for an by the community, embracing the diverse ecologies and colorful expressions of our beloved state of California.
