Founded in 1992 by Captain Jim Gladson, the Los Angeles Maritime Institute (LAMI) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization providing character building, educational, maritime training adventures for youth. LAMI uses traditionally rigged tall ships and the entire shipboard environment to provide at-risk youth with real-life challenges that develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to live h

ealthy, productive lives. Our TopSail Youth Program is offered year-round, free of charge to students from under-served schools and youth organizations serving low-income populations throughout Los Angeles County. Since our founding, we have served more than 60,000 middle school and high school youth in disenfranchised communities throughout Southern California.
