Genesis L.A. Capital. Capacity. Community. Established in 1998 out of the office of former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan, today Genesis LA is certified by the U.S.

Genesis LA's mission is to deliver financial solutions that advance economic and social opportunities in underserved communities in Los Angeles County. Department of the Treasury as a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) and a Community Development Entity (CDE). As a CDFI, we have made over $130 million in direct loans and investments to community and economic development projects through our internally managed Genesis Community Investment Fund (GCIF). As a CDE, we have received and deployed $375 million in New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) allocation to projects. Additionally, we often combine our GCIF and NMTC financing with development services that include technical assistance, financial structuring, capital raising, and acquisition/construction assistance, designed to build the capacity of borrowers and the financial viability of their projects.

We got a sneak peek of the awesome Endeavor space shuttle in Exposition Park, now in its launch position. It is an amazing sight to see. Millions of people will get to visit this inspiring site and hundreds of thousands of LA school kids will learn about science and space exploration visiting this museum.

Another day to celebrate hard work, goodwill and perseverance. Today was the grand opening of Sunnyside Apartments in South LA. This was another of our Rethink Housing projects to repurpose tiny lots into affordable multifamily housing, using the many new state and city laws meant to incentivize reuse of underutilized lots to address our housing crisis. After many years of work, a pandemic, and record inflation, Sunnyside Apartments created 27 affordable homes on a site that is smaller than the typical single family lot in Los Angeles. This building provides much needed affordable housing and adds to the beauty of the community. Many thanks to our brilliant and tireless partners on this Holos Communities Lehrer Architects and RNLA.

A thrilling day to celebrate the grand opening of the Loma Verde affordable housing project. We started working on this project in 2019. The idea was to find ways to use small lots that were usually overlooked for housing development and utilize new land use laws to build more homes on the scraps of land that we will increasingly need to repurpose if we are to address our city’s housing crisis. The road to get here was long and full of challenges, but today we celebrate a one of a kind project that provides 18 formerly homeless Angelenos with a place to call home. A wonderful day to celebrate the grand opening of the new Charles Drew University Health Professionals Building. CDU educates hundreds of doctors, nurses and other health professionals each year and is a leading source of talent that goes on to serve low-income and underserved communities in South LA and beyond. Genesis LA provided approximately $20 million in New Markets Tax Credits to help build this facility.
