Blackhouse is turning 20 — and we want our next chapter to be shaped by YOU. 🖤

We just launched the Blackhouse Community Survey 2026, and we’re asking our community to tell us where you are in your career and what you need most from us going forward.

It takes just a few minutes, it’s completely anonymous, and your answers will directly inform how Blackhouse shows up for Black creative careers in 2026 and beyond.

Repost : After winning Best Actor at the 98th Academy Awards, I had the chance to ask a question in the Oscars press room.

referenced a recent comment by screenwriter “Please stop telling Black people not to desire Oscars.” He asked Michael what recognition like this means for the next generation of artists.

Black filmmakers have shaped the language of cinema for generations through directing, producing, and visual storytelling that continues to move culture forward. From Spike Lee and Ernest Dickerson to Mara Brock Akil, Issa Rae, Ryan Coogler, Jordan Peele, Lee Daniels and Lena Waithe, their work has redefined how stories are framed, lit, and brought to life on screen.

According to Nielsen, Black audiences are 65% more likely to attend films on opening weekend, while Black consumer spending power is projected to reach $2.1 trillion by 2026. The influence of Black storytelling is not niche. It is foundational. Read more at colorblocmagazine.com

Repost :

The 2026 Oscar nominations delivered a historic showing for Black talent across acting, directing, music, and craft categories, with Sinners emerging as a central force. The film earned multiple top-tier nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay for Ryan Coogler, as well as acting nods for Michael B. Jordan (Lead Actor), Delroy Lindo (Supporting Actor), and Wunmi Mosaku (Supporting Actress). Behind the scenes, Ruth E. Carter made history with her fifth career nomination for costume design on Sinners, becoming the most Oscar-nominted Black woman ever. Other standout recognition went to Raphael Saadiq for Original Song and Teyana Taylor for Supporting Actress, underscoring a year defined by Black creative excellence at the Academy Awards. Via Deadline - Sinners with a whopping 16 just set the all-time record for nominations. It is up for Picture, Actor Michael B. Jordan, Supporting Actress Wunmi Mosaku, Supporting Actor Delroy Lindo, Director and Original Screenplay for Ryan Coogler, Music Score, Song “I Lied To You”, Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, Sound , Editing, Makeup & Hair, Casting, and Visual Effects.

The previous record of 14 nominations was shared by three films, the first to do it was 1950’s All About Eve , a record it held at the Academy for 47 years until 1997’s Titanic tied it with 14 as well (it missed for screenplay or it would have broken the record). It took another 19 years until 2016 when La La Land joined the pair also with 14 nominations. Both All About Eve with 6 wins and Titanic with 11 went on to win Best Picture. Famously so did La La Land —for about a minute and 45 seconds – until the correct envelope was awkwardly revealed on stage and Moonlight, not La La Land was announced as the winner. La La Land did take 6 Oscars, but still stands in the record books as the most nominated movie not to win Best Picture.
