This past Saturday, April 18th, was a bright spring day, perfect for another heartwarming event. Our Madam Regent Meghan Lewis & our Chaplain Kimberly A Jindra led us in a Real Daughter Plaque Dedication honoring Elizabeth Hazen Goss Wilcox (National #16320) at Evergreen Cemetery, the oldest cemetery in Los Angeles. 🌳
We enjoyed Meghan's remarks on how this all came to be, followed by a SAR Color Guard, a reading by Phillip Dye, and the support of family, friends, Sons of Liberty, and a very impressive showing by DAR members and associates, including CSSDAR State Chaplain Jennifer Jones and Linda Martinek, District IX Director Elect, CSSDAR. Thank you all so much for coming to witness this two+ year effort led by Meghan & Kim become a reality!
A Real Daughter is a DAR member whose father served the Patriot cause in the American Revolution. Ms. Wilcox' father was Ephraim Abbott Goss, who enlisted in NH at age 15; additionally, her grandfather was CPL Peter Goss, who served in Capt Crosby's Company at the Battle of Bunker Hill. 🇺🇸
Ms. Wilcox was a caregiver until her mother passed at age 105, in NH. Thereafter, in the 1880s and at 80+ years old, she boarded a train to join her daughter here in California. Can you just imagine the courage to take on such a journey?!
Elizabeth Hazen Goss Wilcox, may you rest in peace, always remembered, commemorated, and admired by your fellow Daughters. Thank you to Evergreen Cemetery, members of the Molly Stark Chapter NSDAR, Curran Awards, and Richard and Kim at Esotouric for all of their ardent support of this project.
