Ready To Succeed LA Ready To Succeed is a nonprofit career accelerator for college students in underserved communities.

In January 2016, two non-profit veterans, Romi Lassally and Patrick McCabe, saw the opportunity to transform outcomes with targeted support—to take the foster youth that were motivated, ambitious, and tenacious enough to make it to college and ensure they had the resources, relationships, and opportunities they needed to succeed there and in all facets of life. Romi and Pat believed that if every college student impacted by foster care had the kind of support they needed when they needed it, they could be successful and have a shot at pursuing a future brighter than their past. Initially leveraging their own personal and professional networks, they began to close the opportunity and network gap their students faced. Encouraging others to start opening their own networks as well, the RTS network began to grow exponentially, creating a deep bench of caring and connected professionals across all industries and at every level of the career ladder. In January 2022, RTS expanded to include low-income first-generation college students. Along with students impacted by foster care, these first-gen Scholars have unique access to a diverse group of thought leaders, innovators, and passionate professionals who offer advice, opportunities, and a community of support. Today, our mission is to inspire college students in underserved communities to unlock their potential by providing them with the coaching, connections, and community they need to launch their careers and thrive.

Another Camp Ready W in the win column! 🎉

Last month, Ready to Succeed welcomed the newest cohort of Scholars to Camp Ready, our annual summer event to help former foster youth build community, strengthen career skills, and begin their RTS journey with confidence.

Over three days, Scholars traveled from across California to connect with peers, meet their advisors, learn from volunteer professionals, and practice skills like resume building, elevator pitches, and interview prep.

This year, RTS also expanded Camp Ready to include returning Scholars, who had the chance to refresh their professional skills, meet the newest cohort, and participate in a career fair with RTS partner organizations.

Thank you for helping former foster youth build the confidence, connections, and the career skills they need to thrive. 💙 Visit the link in our bio to get involved!

Ring the Bell!

Because of your support, real doors are opening for RTS Scholars!

Chrisie, a recent graduate, just secured a full-time Animation Production role at Skydance Studios. After interning there for a year, she went above and beyond to build relationships, gain visibility, and turn her internship into a career.

Daniel recently landed an internship with the Democratic Party of Orange County, where he will gain hands-on experience in civic engagement and leadership.

Rudy attended a required RTS job fair and made the most of it—walking away with a summer offer as a Financial Advisor at Lenox Advisors, thanks to a connection he made that day.

These wins matter. But there are more former foster youth still working toward their first opportunity who still need encouragement, guidance, and access to life-changing connections.

🚀 Real-world experience. Real impact.

Launched in 2020, the McCabe Impact Fellowship partners with local non-
profits to provide Ready to Succeed Scholars
with paid experiential learning opportunities.

Meant to bridge the gap in accessible career-building experiences, the
fellowship offers 10–12-week placements that equip Scholars with industry
experience, professional mentorship, and a $4,000 stipend.

At the end of the fellowship, Scholars gather to present on their experience with other scholars and our wonderful partner organizations.

We’re so close — just $5,000 away from unlocking our full $30,000 matching gift for former foster youth and first-generation college students! Thanks to generous supporters like you, every dollar you give by June 1 will be doubled — but only you can close the gap.

For recent grads like Dakota, your generosity provides the resources to not only build up his professional skills, but also find the career he’s truly passionate about.

“Ready to Succeed helped me build the confidence, skills, and clarity I needed to pursue my dream career. From learning how to write a resume to finding my passion for teaching, I wouldn’t be where I am today—accepted into grad school to become a history teacher—without their support.”

Camp Ready 2025 is less than a month away!

This immersive, overnight experience is where newly admitted former foster youth take their first steps into the Ready to Succeed community. For Scholars like William, this means connecting with peers, mentors, and alumni while building the confidence and skills to pursue their dreams.

“Camp Ready made me feel more supported and seen than ever before. I don’t have the words to fully express my gratitude—but I know this experience changed me, and I’m so excited for what lies ahead.”

🎓 Get excited! The RTS Graduation Celebration is tomorrow!

Now in its fifth year, this special event honors our graduating Scholars while creating more opportunities for future college-bound foster youth.

Since 2016, Ready to Succeed has supported 476 foster youth Scholars in pursuing their dreams. While 93% aspire to earn a college degree, fewer than 4% graduate—your support is changing that.

Tomorrow, RTS is celebrating 28 Scholars as they reach this remarkable milestone.

You make this possible. Help continue changing lives—donate using the link in our bio today!

Go Angel City!

In honor Foster Care Awareness Month, RTS Scholars, Alumni, and Staff had the opportunity to watch Angel City FC take on Utah Royals! While the first half ended 0-0, Angel City scored two goals in the second half to win the game 2-0 🥳

For new RTS Scholars like Sarai, events like this demonstrate the impact of having a community of peers by your side.

“My favorite thing about the RTS community is how supportive everyone is of one another. Everyone brings different life experiences to the table but are still so kind and welcoming.”

Your support makes this all possible.
