Schools are back in session and although it's slightly different than what we are use to, we've been able to adapt and continue to bring Stand Up with Comedy to our students. All of our classes have transitioned to an online format via Zoom and we're currently looking for mentors to support these upcoming programs. Now that we are online, it's even easier to give back! There's no waiting in traffic or searching for parking, you can easily log on from home and help us continue to spread comedy and laughter to all our kids.

Each class will meet once a week for 45 minutes to an hour and run for 6-weeks. At the end of the class, the students will perform a few of their very own jokes in a virtual show.

We recently wrapped our 3rd year working with Wise Readers to Leaders and, as you can see, we all couldn’t be happier! We had a small but mighty crew of kids who kept us laughing throughout our class and brought a bright spot to each week, helping us all stay grounded during these crazy times! Hard to believe but the new school year is just around the corner and we’re getting ready to launch our next round of classes. As all of our schools and students adjust to this new normal (for now), we are too. We’ve taken all our classes online via Zoom and are looking to add a few more schools to our digital classroom. If you know of a public or charter school ANYWHERE in the US that supports underserved students, we’d love to connect and see if they’d be interested in hosting a free, 6-week class this Fall 2020. Since the beginning, our mission at Stand Up With Comedy has been to make a difference in the lives of underserved kids by encouraging self-expression, creativity, and exploration of the arts through stand-up comedy. With this goal in mind, we have taught our students that their perspectives, ideas, and stories are unique and important, and we have helped them build the skills to bring their words to life on stage. While we are currently facing an unprecedented time in history, most especially for our communities of color, this mission continues to be our guiding light.

Without the inspiring and unique voices of our students and mentors, we would not be the community we are today. Now, more than ever, we must continue to shine the spotlight on these powerful voices that need to be heard. These are voices that bring joy, character, and life to our schools, our neighborhoods, and our cities and perspective that enriches our world.

While we Stand Up With Comedy, more importantly we stand up with our community, schools, students and volunteers.

Over the last 5 years, we have been fortunate enough to build an amazing community of teachers, volunteers, schools, and students that have allowed us to spread the joy and laughter of comedy through our stand up classes! AND, we couldn’t have done that without ALL OF YOU! On this , we’re thankful for this wonderful network that enables us to do what we do and the continued rallying behind our cause during these uncertain times. Now more than ever, we’re working hard to ensure our program is able to persist and make an impact in the lives of all our students. Two weeks ago we launched our first virtual class online via Zoom Video Communications with students from Valley Charter Middle School. The kids have had a great time so far and so have we! Checking in from . As with most everything else in LA, our classes for Spring 2020 were suspended indefinitely as we all and work to beat this virus. We’ve gotten a lot of e-mails about the sadness our students have felt over the loss of their comedy class programming. Over the last few weeks as the situation has unfolded, we have been working on solutions to be able to continue to bring our classes to the students (and parents) who need them EVEN MORE right now!
