We’re looking for a Policy Advocacy Manager to join our team and help build power alongside Black workers through policy advocacy.

This role will lead relationship-building with City, State, and Federal elected officials, develop policy research and advocacy materials, and collaborate with our Organizing and Campaigns teams to advance strategies rooted in Black workers' liberation.

🚨 Federal workers’ civil rights are at risk.

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is proposing major changes to the process federal workers use when they experience discrimination on the job.

Under the proposed rule, federal workers would no longer have the same ability to request a hearing before an independent EEOC administrative judge before their agency issues its final decision.

The proposal would also eliminate mandatory pre-complaint EEOC counseling and administrative class complaints.

For Black workers, who continue to face discrimination and barriers in the workplace, weakening the processes meant to hold workplaces accountable has real consequences.

The public has until September 28 to weigh in, and our union partners have made it easy to take action.

The future of 5401 Crenshaw must be shaped by the community. ✊🏾

For the past year, residents, community partners, and LABWC member leaders have been building a collective vision for the future of the 5401 Crenshaw site. That vision includes:

🏢 Workforce empowerment and economic opportunity: quality jobs, career pathways, small business support, and community resources.

🛍️ A thriving business district: affordable commercial space, community-serving businesses, and investments that honor the cultural and economic legacy of the Crenshaw Corridor.

🏠 Housing that meets community needs: deeply affordable and family-sized housing, workforce housing, and strategies that prevent displacement and keep residents rooted.

📣 Our community has invested so much into identifying what this site needs. Now we are calling on you, the community-aligned developers, to use these recommendations to guide the next phase. ⚠️: Mental Health/Su***de Prevention

🫂 Black mental health matters. 🖤

It’s National Su***de Prevention Month, and we’re holding space for the mental health of Black workers, families, and communities.

As Black folks, we face unique mental health challenges shaped by racism, discrimination, inequity, stigma, socioeconomic barriers, provider bias, and a lack of culturally competent care. These barriers can make it harder to access the support and treatment needed.

Mental health is part of our collective well-being. We deserve spaces where we can be honest about what we’re carrying, care for one another, and access support without shame.

The LABWC Wellness Committee creates space for healing, connection, care, and whole-person wellness within our movement. Get connected with an organizer today for more information.

We came together. We shared our vision. And we’re building what comes next. ✊🏿

This past weekend, LABWC member leaders, staff, community partners, and project partners gathered for the 5401 Crenshaw People’s Gathering to reflect on the collective vision our community has built over the past year and chart the path forward for 5401 Crenshaw Boulevard.

We were honored to be joined by Senator Lola Smallwood-Cuevas, the SD 28 team, partners from the 5401 Crenshaw Community Working Group, and our project partners at Estolano Advisors. We held meaningful community conversations, hosted a Q&A, and heard powerful words from Senator Smallwood-Cuevas and other guests. This is what is possible when we make space to listen, dream, and build together.

We know what our community needs. We know what is best for us. And when we come together, organize, and stay committed to our collective vision, we can win.

Now, we’re moving into the next phase.
