At Ánimo South LA, Drama students kicked off the year with the “Where I’m From” Project. Students were tasked with writing an original identity poem about aspects of themselves such as culture, family, and personal passions. They then worked in small groups to rehearse and stage each other’s poems. After adding in lights and music, a student audience was brought in to witness their original work. Advanced Drama students served as directors and mentors for the class. Drama teacher Clifford Campbell and VAPA Instructional Aide Bryan Marroquin were so proud of the powerful words and vulnerability that were shared onstage.

We’re celebrating big news! All six Green Dot Public Schools up for renewal have been granted five-year renewals by LAUSD!

Congratulations to Ánimo Mae Jemison, Ánimo James B. Taylor, Ánimo Watts, Ánimo Ralph Bunche, Ánimo Pat Brown, and Ánimo South Los Angeles!

This milestone reflects the dedication of our students, families, educators, staff, school leaders, and community partners who show up every day for our students and one another. Together, we’ve shown the power of community, collaboration, and a shared commitment to student success.

Getting ready for their futures! Over 625 Ánimo Pat Brown students from all four grade levels participated in a college and resource fair, including an alumni panel. Students rotated through the fair, with each grade receiving approximately 25 minutes to visit representatives. With 38 colleges and organizations participating, the fair helped expose students to the many college, career, and community opportunities available to them.
