When Lorna A. Courtney was in the 7th grade, her Mother saw a 60 Minutes television segment about the Gospel for Teens initiative run by Vy Higgensen’s Mama Foundation for the Arts in Harlem.

She signed her up for the free extracurricular program to help bring her out of her shell.

There’s something pretty powerful about giving a child a stage.

Suddenly, being loud is encouraged. Big feelings have somewhere to go. Imagination becomes a skill. And taking up space? That’s the assignment.

For Lorna, those opportunities helped lead to Broadway.

For every young person, the destination will be different.

That’s the point.

Arts education isn’t about knowing where a child’s creativity will take them. It’s about making sure they get the chance to find out.

We can’t wait to welcome Lorna to the FYLF Benefit Concert for Arts Education stage on Monday!

1994. Florida District V Thespian Festival. The Goodbye Girl. And one very committed teenage Joey Fatone
Before the arenas, albums, TV stages, and everything that came next, there were school stages like this one. A place to rehearse, take a risk, get the laugh, hit the note, and find out just how much you love performing.
That’s what’s so special about arts education. You don’t need to know where any of it is going.
You just need a place to begin.
We’re thrilled to have Joey on our stage this time at the FYLF Benefit Concert for Arts Education one week from today.

🎭 Before becoming a household name in comedy, Stephen studied theater at Northwestern University. His path is a great reminder that the arts can take you places you never expected from the stage to your television screen and beyond!

A jazz legend, nine-time Grammy Award winner, and the first jazz musician to win the Pulitzer Prize for Music; Wynton Marsalis is joining us for the Find Your Light Benefit Concert for Arts Education!

🎺 Wynton is a co-founder of Jazz at Lincoln Center, where the Essentially Ellington program gives high school jazz bands the opportunity to study the music of Duke Ellington, work with leading jazz educators, and perform at a festival in New York City.

It’s a beautiful example of what happens when young musicians get access to great teachers, great music, and a stage to call their own. And this October, we’re celebrating that very spirit by honoring Wynton as the 2026 Find Your Light Award Honoree!

Every young person deserves a place where they can feel heard.

For Carmelo, that place is The Stuttering Association for the Young, one of Find Your Light Foundation’s grantee organizations.

Through SAY’s programs, Carmelo has found a community where stuttering doesn’t have to hold him back from performing, expressing himself, or connecting with others. Through the performing arts, he’s had the opportunity to build confidence, take creative risks, and share his voice on his own terms.

And this year, we’re thrilled to have Carmelo back at the Find Your Light Benefit Concert for Arts Education.

SAY reminds us that arts education can create more than opportunities to perform. It can create a place where young people feel understood, supported, and empowered to express who they are.

That’s what access to the arts can make possible.

Louis Cato started playing drums at age 2.

Before the stages, the spotlights, the Grammy nominations, and leading the band on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert… there was a kid at a drum set. 🥁

That early curiosity became a lifelong musical practice from growing up with gospel and contemporary Christian music in North Carolina, to studying at Berklee, to becoming a Grammy-nominated and Emmy-nominated multi-instrumentalist, producer, singer, songwriter, and bandleader.

That’s the magic of arts education: giving young people the space to discover what moves them, and the tools, encouragement, and opportunity to keep going.

We’re beyond excited to welcome the incomparable Louis Cato to the FYLF Benefit Concert for Arts Education on October 19th.

Proof that sometimes the biggest things start with a very small drummer. ❤️🥁
