Spearheaded by First District Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria Molina, and with generous support from The California Endowment, the Wellness Center at the Historic General Hospital (LAC+USC Medical Center) will house like-minded non-profit organizations that have a vision of making Boyle Heights, a historically significant and densely populated neighborhood, a healthier community. This collabo
ration between Supervisor Gloria Molina and The California Endowment is an effort to honor the institution where millions of Los Angeles County Residents have received care and its history of healing as well as an opportunity to pioneer a change in the medical field. By switching from a treatment-based medical system to one that is more comprehensive and focused on prevention of disease, we can create healthier communities. The Wellness Center aims to provide culturally sensitive programs to address the root cause of disease, empower residents and patients to take control of their own health and lives, improve the health outcomes for the community and patients through the expansion of preventative care services, encourage collaboration between non-profit groups, attract community development and investment in a largely underserved area, and become a key component of an East Los Angeles regional integrated health care delivery system.
